It’s the shallow and spineless pop culture-centric criteria in the OP that makes this especially befuddling
This verse alone is one of the greatest in the history of music, regardless of if Ye was the only person responsible for its writing
Penitentiary chances, the devil dances
And eventually answers to the call of Autumn
All of them fallin' for the love of ballin'
Got caught with 30 rocks, the cop look like Alec Baldwin
Inter-century anthems based off inner-city tantrums
Based off the way we was branded
Face it, Jerome get more time than Brandon
And at the airport they check all through my bag
And tell me that it's random
But we stay winnin', this week has been a bad massage
I need a happy endin' and a new beginnin'
And a new fitted, and some job opportunities that's lucrative
This the real world, homie, school finished
They done stole your dreams, you dunno who did it
I treat the cash the way the government treats AIDS
I won't be satisfied 'til all my n****s get it, get it?

Yall will really put Eminem or Kanye over Black Thought, Lupe, Mos Def, Raekwon, Redman, Common, Q Tip, Big L, Havic/Prodigy, Guru etc
Like how do yall listen to hip hop for a living and choose a dude who's been trash longer than hes been good and a dude with a team of writers over MCs like the ones listed

Idk if you’re saying this as like a got ya moment or something but I already specified that in my post no one is in here debating for Kanye to be in the top 5 most skilled MC’s of all time as far as I can tell
Listen, Eminem used to be my literal favorite rapper. But he fell off and time has not been kind to him or his music. It's hard to say if Biggie would've stayed relevant for a time had he not died but his music has become timeless.
Yes, he was influential. So was Biggie.
Biggie literally has two of the best albums in hip hop canon.
Are you forgetting the influence Biggie had on Jay-Z?
Em is definitely within say the top 15 artists of all time but putting in a top 5 that excludes Biggie, is damn near sacrilege.
Em's legendary feature run is over. Respectfully, Big Sean outrapped him in a feature.
You're taking your subjective emotions as objective fact.
Eminem's old music still gets a ton of spins, as evidenced by their charting and Spotify streams.
His new music, like it or not, also has its ardent supporters. Matter of fact, I know people that consider Recovery era Em to be prime Em... and people that think the same for Kamikaze.
You saying "his old music doesn't hold up" is subjective and irrelevant, sorry and I'm trying to be objective ITT

My nigga, you have a Jay Z avi... half that mans catalogue is well-produced mid.
B**** please. All the 2pac heads use Youtube to listen to his 🎶 especially all his unreleased 🎶.
U can’t take BIG off and leave Em and PAC, sorry.
That don’t even add up.
didnt pac release WAY more music?
I agree Big ain’t in my top 5 fav rapper list just for lack of material but if we talking top 5 most skilled he’s definitely in there
Pac is not top 5 as an all around artist imo either, I may be biased bc I wasn’t old enough to experience the wave but his larger than life personality caries his legacy a lot more than his actual talent/music/discog.
He had a great voice and extremely passionate and engaging delivery but his technical ability was pretty average. 2pacalyspe now has some gems and is classic in the “this is a cool ass old rap album” type of way but it’s not a masterpiece on the level of Illmatic, Ready to Die, Reasonable Doubt, College Dropout, GKMC, etc
S4MN is pretty much good bc of the singles (I get around etc)
MATW is Pac magnum opus and a true masterpiece pac best album imo
I’m not mad at anyone who thinks AEOM is a masterpiece but I don’t, great album but I can’t listen to it in one sitting, too much filler
Don killuminati is raw asf which works for the most part but a lot of the songs are rough to the point that they sound poorly executed
And then ofc all that posthumous s*** is irrelevant
Lastly Eminem doesn’t have a spot in my top 5 either. Top 10 for sure but not top 5. 2 reasons:
1)well over 50% of his discog is unlistenable (sslp, MMLP & Eminem show his only great albums)
2)his subject matter is limited asf. When he’s not talking about his trauma or being a degenerate he literally sounds lost which is why his later albums are so bad.
The true top 6 ever hip/hop artist in no particular order (can’t pick 5)
Jay-Z
Kanye West
Nas
Lil Wayne
Drake
Kendrick Lamar
2pac became great not because of only his 🎶 that was released when he was alive. It was mainly because of the unreleased songs that were sold in swap meat shops. That is why he is so great. When all his unreleased songs we're sold in swap meat shops people started to listen to all his 🎶 and noticed omg this guy is so great. People don't even know his most recognized song Changes was a song he recorded at 20-21 years old that was never released until 7-8 years later. 2pac is the greatest rapper ever. I was just walking around yesterday to the corner store and people were celebrating/crying in front of the cornerstone/liquor store with candles on the floor over someone's death. Guess what songs they were playing Life Goes On/Runnin From The Police. This is when I said to myself this guy 2pac is the greatest rapper of all time. After so many years you have young folks still playing his songs on a loudspeaker. The place I live is not the suburbs this is a hood area. Plus last year(2020) during the riots people are playing 2pac Changes and it resurfaced on the iTunes chart. 2pac is the GOAT.
Dont give a f*** what he raps about,
He would rap circles around your favorite rapper. End of story.
It's like watching a horror movie then discredit the writing because horror movies are CORNY.
Lol nah this take is CORNY

Mans doing all this but could probably recite a good amount of Kanye lyrics this is semantics
