2018-2021 album Drake. You could say that Views -> Scorpion -> CLB were him "having fun" or not taking it seriously, but I honestly took those albums as way too cynical and streaming-calculated. ML, HN, and HL seem much more in line with him just not taking it seriously and having fun, and the reception is always better. 2022 Drake>>>, but he's already doing a good job so no need to harp on it too much.
I wish Mos Def didn't go all pretentious w/ his later music and just made good s***. The Ecstatic is my favorite album, miss that guy.
Earl, kinda feel like we lost him. His music is interesting but not very listenable.
Rocky probably needs to have a bit more fun w/ his music and step away from his art rap attempts to some extent, tho atp idk if he's doing much music at all.
2 Chainz
2012 2 Chainz was funny and entertaining af. But he got all serious when rap nerds didn't approve of him
He dropped his best album in 2017 tho
Navy Blue should stop looking like his idea of having fun is reading a good book and going to a museum to enrich your soul
Honestly not too many that don't already have fun with their music. Better question would be rappers that should take their music more seriously
Navy Blue should stop looking like his idea of having fun is reading a good book and going to a museum to enrich your soul
Navy's Reprise was his "fun" album imo just back to back bars
Kendrick
Came to say this
Kendrick so easily man miss when there wasn’t this sense of burden about nearly every project
Listen to those albums 😂
Navy Blue should stop looking like his idea of having fun is reading a good book and going to a museum to enrich your soul
Like wtf is this.
I remember when I first discovered Kendrick I loved how much fun he had
Feels like after a while he started rapping and making music from the perspective of a higher being watching humanity from above lmaoo
Navy's Reprise was his "fun" album imo just back to back bars
ngl my least remembered navy album. maybe I should go back to it
Like every artist yall named have had fun albums.
This thread moreso a lot of yall wishing these artists just never grow up lol. And thats why this shii goofy

For as much as I love TPAB that album and the reception to it definitely changed kendricks music forever
Even GKMC had songs where he was just talking his s*** now it feels like every song conceptually ties into the other which isnt bad at all just not good for casual listening
Like wtf is this.
navy is one of my favorites but its clear as day that hes too self-serious. go to his thread and read about his concerts, thats just one part of it

But if he did that yall would just say “he keeps trying to recreate gkmc” and say he’s not improving as an album.
I love how this sentiment is only in rap music yo

Agreed
Need more fun lyrical exercise Kendrick again. Where he’s just like reminding niggas he’s the best and not trying to tell a story or paint a conceptual picture

Who is yall lmao dont conflate me with the rest of these niggas
