Ok?
less than 12 hours notice? dude the album anticipation thread dates back like 1-2 weeks why you making stuff up. how could it be less than 12 hour notice if he was able to release a documentary
No people were trying to compare this to Dark Lane Demo Tape but this had a full rollout and DLTD was a surprise release. The numbers are close but DLDT was just a compilation tape while Cole made an album
I dont know why ya acting like dldt didn't have far more promo, surprise drop or not lol

What promo did he do?
What promo did he do?
He had 5 singles. Whether they were intended for a project or not doesn't really matter, still promotion of a new drake project. Not even saying a project marketed as an album with new songs wouldn't sell more but there was unintentional promo for dldt
He had a single a documentary and did a freestyle that went viral idk how much more he would need Lol people just don’t care
Yeah, he did as much as someone like him would need to do to build hype. Can't say people didn't know the album would be dropping when he gave a 2-week notice before dropping it.
It wasn't a bunch of b sides though. It had a #1 record on it, singles, etc.
The only song pushed as a single was Toosie Slide. When to Say When/Chicago Freestyle/War were released with videos weeks/months earlier but they were not pushed as singles as they were not on iTunes or any streaming services. Part of why Dark Lane Demo Tapes dropped was because fans kept asking for the songs on streaming services and songs kept leaking. The rest of the songs on the tape were loosies/demos he just scrapped together. He announced it less than 6 hours before it dropped and it did 223K/269M streams. It was also released smack dab in the middle of the pandemic.
If y'all wanna talk big talk, let's do this. F*** the first week numbers. Dark Lane Demo Tapes was a surprise drop and it spent 9 consecutive weeks in the Billboard 200 top 10. Let's see how many weeks The Off-Season spends in the top 10 (I'm expecting it to surpass 9 weeks easily).

didnt it get outsold by a f***ing country artists? if that isnt a flop idk what is

What promo? No one knew it was coming until 6 hours before it dropped when Drake announced it. Only 1 song off it was released as a single.
Cole didn't do a ton of promo either but the expectations for him have to be higher because Cole dropped an ALBUM. His first solo album in 3 years, one that he's been teasing for at least 2 years. Cole also did more to let people know his album was coming than Drake did. He announced it on his social media pages 2 weeks prior to it being released. He released a song as a single a week before the album dropped. Released a mini-documentary. Did a freestyle. Got a magazine cover/profile. Did a podcast interview. I mean.

It didn't. The country artist's outsold it for 1 week and that's only because that country artist used bundles in a really messed up way that caused Billboard to scrap bundles altogether.
The country artist went from #1 to #38 the following week and his album left the Billboard 200 chart after 10 weeks.
Dark Lane Demo Tapes spent 9 straight weeks in the top 10, has moved over 1M units, has over 1.5B streams on Spotify and is still charting on the Billboard 200 a year after it's release so no, it wasn't a flop.

Look at my post above.
5 singles, one of which was a number 1 whether it was intended to be on a body or work or not is still promo. It was just unintentional.

What 5 singles? Do you know what a single is? That's like Cole only releasing Album of the Year Freestyle on YouTube and nowhere else and then adding it to a mixtape 3 months later and someone saying "it was a single! It was promo!" How? When it didn't start gaining any streams until it was officially added to a project that got released on Spotify/Apple Music/Etc? That's what happened with When to Say When/Chicago Freestyle/War for Drake so they weren't singles.

4, 5 if u wanna count desires
Chicago Freestyle
When to say when
Toosie slide
War
And a single is literally by definition a standalone track
I would 100% call album of the year freestyle promo then lol, it still is promo even without it being on the album

You obviously can't read lol. I've spelled out the difference between what Drake did and any other person should be able to understand. I won't be doing that again.

And I already spelled out for u that there is no difference. Both are still promotion by the literal definition of the word.
