There was literally only one instance which was a tweet while hes had more than once instance of him referring to it as a mixtape

Again, he talked about how he approached it with the same mindset he approached the warm up. Show me a rapper saying they approached a studio album the same way they approached a mixtape.

the wild part about this is we saying its a mixtape doesnt mean we treating it any different than how we treat every other cole project lmao. This really has no bearing on what we were even initially trying to say it was the drake stan downplaying Dark Lane's commercial success and talking about how it was a mixtape like that changed the commercial success

Unlike drake s*** this was promoted as a body of work and legit was a ton of unheard songs besides one released last year . Not a bunch of leaks with demo in the title so I’m sure these sales are a reflection of his hype

No one downplayed the success of DLDT but you can't compare the success of a Drake album and a Drake side project. His albums always do better and are always marketed/treated like an album.

This was his IG post announcing DLDT.

Notice how he makes a point that it ISN'T his album and says that would be coming later? Drake has released side projects since he started dropping albums and they all count as just that - side projects. IYRTITL/WATTBA/More Life/DLDT are all side projects, NOT albums.

It doesn't matter what mindset Cole was in when he made the Off-Season. It was released/marketed as an album and even more importantly, he himself referred to it as an album. That's what makes it an album.

This is a moronic point because before Cole even told us off season was dropping there was no indication it was a studio album. Even after the project came out people still treat it like it's a mixtape. Some do, others don't. So yes, mindset does matter which is the whole point. When Fall Off drops it's going to do better than the off season. That's not to say it will sell 500 or 600k but it will be a more commercial album from mindset to songs and that's the project everyone has been anticipating. Just cause Cole has one tweet referring to it as an album doesnt change the fact that it was promoted like a mixtape which was the point from the beginning. If Drake called dark lane an album, people would still treat it like a compilation tape. Im done with this convo.
