I don’t know truthfully. I heard originally he was going to retire after 4YEO as he didn’t really have the drive or ambition to continue anymore, but then he saw Kendrick have such a successful year in 2017, and it inspired him and light a fire and he’s been go go go ever since.

I say that because he was probably going to drop a free mixtape on Datpiff over classic hip hop beats like the album of the year freestyle, but then he changed course and just started working on some original songs. The difference between 2014 FHD and KOD is that FHD has legs. That album lasted into most of 2015. I remember being a junior in high school bumping that s*** and people LOVING it. I loved it too.

KOD just kind of came and went. People would bring up how important the content was sometimes, but that year it seemed like his feature run received more overall attention honestly. Because how couldn’t it? He was snapping on his features in a way he didn’t on KOD.

The problem is you're talking about two different things. The hype before the album and the buzz around the album once it's dropped are different things. Leading up to both albums they had more or less the same hype. But once they dropped,yes,FHD was bigger
