I really don't think these freestyles are meant to be held up in the same light as some of the biggest rap songs of recent memory. I'm not even a Cole fan but dude can't even give his fanbase an appetizer for the album without a massive wave of criticism. Probably why rappers don't really give us s*** like this anymore

Cole just needs ANTHEMS. That's what's been missing in his catalog for the last decade. He needs bangers, records, hits ā whatever you wanna call it. Songs that can galvanize people together beyond his immediate fanbase. Those are the songs that really cut through and make all the difference in conversations about these rappers at the end of the day. Even moreso when the albums those songs belong to are well-structured and put together. That's really all I'm saying.
Cole has always been nice with the pen. Been listening to this man since 2007 and that has never been in doubt, not once but simply rapping good doesn't necessarily equal making great music or a great album.
