J Cole is a very good rapper in the sense that he knows how to make his lines sound interesting and clever when most of the time they are surface level bars, his phrasing is very good and he is very talented technically.

His problem is that he is a very average musician and songwriter, most of his music is basic and unoriginal, it's like he is always following the blueprint left by previous lyrical rappers, he never innovates.
Still a dope MC, he should find some good producers and curators to help him focus and improve his music.
