I think its a combination of a few things:

• Trying to clear his name to the degree he can after making what he realized was a mistake getting gassed up and jumping in the battle. I really do think it's possible it was a "He don't have internet" moment when Cole decided to enter the battle as far as not knowing that there's some deeply rooted s*** between Kendrick and Drake. I think he wanted it to be 3 guys competing in rap skill and he's confident in his ability (as he should be) but this was delusional because there were actual problems between the other two guys.

• Trying to salvage a rollout for The Fall Off because now the context has changed since the battle. I think some of his fans will buy into his role as the "peacemaker" sort of guy and I kind of enjoyed that "I don't wanna be the gun" stance even though he did pop off, it was just a very weak shot, that he then took back. That being said it does take a certain amount of something to say "I f***ed up, I can't stand on what I just said, people were hyping it up and its not what I initially thought was going on, so I'm stepping out". After what happened, I think it was the right thing to do.

I've heard all the rebuttals to this already (He can't claim to be the best anymore if he ducked a battle, etc) and don't really care much for those arguments any more. Sure it was dumb what happened, but he admitted it

He is literally speaking for Drake. Hes said on the podcast before that he talks to drake and he said on this specific pod that Cole and Drake havent spoken, he could only know that because drake told him.

He spent most of this pod arguing that Cole should have fought for Drakes honor because he took him on tour. Its clear as day that hes just echoing what Drake is telling him internally.
