Naming the song Port Antonio may mean he wrote this while in Jamaica, signaling he’s out of reach, or probably both.

Musically and lyrically, the song is great. The message itself was a self-serving voice note of him coming to terms with his actions or lack thereof. That’s fine, but part of the message is how it’s released in today’s digital age and he knows that.

Cole might have dropped this loosie because he did not want the beef to follow his next project, if that actually ends up being the Fall Off. Ironically, I think this kind of record could’ve been slotted in his next album and would’ve been fine. If anything, if the theme is correct, it might have helped it.

Biggest issue most Cole fans, like myself, have with him is his indecisiveness. Again, this is a rapper who gave an unsolicited apology record to Nas, has teased a final album for 8+ years with multiple full releases since, and reneged a lightly-jabbed diss track with a public apology attached.

No need to double down on his explaining why he’s sticking to principles over positions on a loosie. At this point, we get that Cole struggles with any fall out from his art stepping out of his perceived, normal character, but that’s exactly his fatal flaw as an artist. He stays within bounds.
