I have to admit....the beef really has hurt hip hop discourse to a degree.

Niggas online are literally pretending Cole's release isn't heat just because he bowed out of the beef.

That is insanely corny and I'm praying those people are just trolls or bots.

    I keep saying this

But the issue isn’t really the beef. The issues that not a whole lot else has happened that people are excited about besides it

I’m sure the Jay and Nas beef took up a lot of oxygen at the time, but hip hop was overall more vibrant in 2001 so it wasn’t the only thing there was

  • mov

How many tracks will this have

    30?

Cole always has short albums so a double disc would probably have 20-24.

    Such a good song man

Fauntleroy was lacing so many songs in the early 2010s

I get he’s more a writer but still wish we heard him sing more

Will the album contain a bunch of stuff recorded over the past 10 years then?

    Concept is amazing

The beat is very underwhelming tbh

This has always been J Cole's downfall tbh

If he was a better beat selector or had beatmakers around him like prime Kanye he would have been in Kendrick's position right now

Imagine him over College Dropout or Common Be beats or Pusha Daytona beats by Ye would be unreal

    BS.

Niggas keep saying the underground is thriving, the OG's are delivering, and bring up multiple AOTY contenders but there's nothing to be excited about but the beef?

Nah. I just think certain people on both sides are just milking it because they love the feeling of excitement and euphoria(ba dum tss) it brought them in the spring and summer of 2024. And they just can't let it go despite there being no real reason to focus on it anymore since both Kendrick and Drake are thriving and the others involved are still actively dropping music.

Jay and Nas as well as Pac and Biggie has some similarities but I promise you that niggas weren't pretending Black Album and College Dropout were "bad" for being Roc A Fella projects even if they were Nas stans lol.

I genuinely think he couldn’t blow up cause he was obese… cause the industry is so image focused

I remember thinking his album with terrace Martin was fire till I got to this track where he compared women to chocolate cake and s*** actually pissed me off so bad I turned off the record

Cause there was talented artists making good albums

What good albums have dropped since the beef from newer artists

  • Grown to think J Cole is very talented as a rapper (didn’t like him 10 years ago, have warmed up a lot) but personally don’t like him on this kinda beat tbh.

Newer artists haven’t made good albums in a long while. Since streaming. So yeah.

is Nice Watch a WTT rejected beat? need to know if Cole was in them sessions smh

Ngl I always liked that song

  • Bobby_96

Nah. It's more of a Hip Hop Twitter thing.

But Hip Hop twitter is full of s***ty hot takes and contrarians so I guess I shouldn't take it too seriously.

On Twitter I don't really follow any hip-hop Twitter accounts I only follow my friends really and people with similar tastes

  • This song is amazing

Yea you probably right especially around that time. And I had no clue they did a project but I don’t blame you . Awful

  • tease

    Agreed.

    So where’s his hit?

    J. Cole doesn't collab with big artists often or makes a lot of radio friendly music, the better question is why their collab after that didn't do the same? Or why that was Drake's last #1?

You can’t call someone a pedophile with no real ability to just “get past that”. Drake was ready to be called lame, corny, fake, weak, etc.

Kendrick tagged this man as a fugitive s***criminal.

Bruh, you’d rather be a suspected have DV or murder case…

I really dont understand why people dont get why drake sued, even if it was a defensive futile tactic.

AND the industry rewarded Kendrick for doing it on every level.

There is no closure on this.

This isn’t even about drake’s ability to be a quality artist. People are using what kendrick said as a proxy to attack drake even further.

You’re right about the OGs and the underground

But I’d argue the new acts, who get the big major label marketing budgets that stir up broad conversation aren’t coming thru the same way

When you have prime Em, prime OutKast, prime Nelly, and prime 50 dropping you’re not going to talk about Jay and Nas all day. TI and Clipse were dropping their debuts. It was different.

LGSEO made a ton of noise when it dropped last year. I feel like an album that good with a rollout as effective at stirring up conversation happened every month when I grew up.

I agree that stans are being ridiculous. Stans are always ridiculous. I’ve heard Jay Z stans argue that he actually won the battle 20 years after the battle. I just think they’d have been drowned out by now if hip hop was in an overall healthier space

Yeah there’s a certain type of baffling boring beat he often (def not exclusively) chooses.
