No one wants to hear this idiot speak on other people’s talents. Cole can say anything he wants when he’s rapping this good.
This new track is beautiful writing. Very skeptical he can keep that up for a whole album especially a double album. But the way hes been hyping this up and the amount of time hes been working on it def has me intrigued, esp with a track this good as a single.
The rhyming is good of course but not really feeling what he’s saying
Sounds like he got too caught up in rhyming multiple words together.
Something that him and Drake will tend to overdo sometimes..
It’s not as impressive like it used to be.
and they'll eat it up everytime

who's to say it's a double album
could be triple or quad

Would be trash. The double album is already hard enough to pull off for any artist
It’s not an issue that the concept has been done - how many rap songs have been made using a girl as a metaphor for something else (I Used to Love H.E.R., Homecoming, Gloria, etc.) and it’s still good.
What I found boring here was that Cole didn’t do anything novel with the concept - it was too literal. When the track started, I thought there’d be some commentary on the changes in his life from fame to coming up to his childhood or whatever, but instead it was literal stuff like “baby go back in stomach” and “I’m growing shorter”. That is exactly what Nas did on Rewind so it’s not as interesting here.
It’s also just boring narratively. It’s not interesting to hear about someone who is born, gets married, has kids and dies. The story on Rewind is like a scene from a mafia movie in reverse and has the twist of the shooting at the start of the track being set up at the end.
Also, Rewind was just a quick throwaway track and more of a fun story than anything. Cole releasing it with a music video to build hype for his album he’s been promoting for half a decade is anticlimactic.
I know this is overthinking the whole thing but it just really feels like a boring take on the concept and I don’t understand why he chose this as the first track to release. If it was a random song on the album, whatever. But this should be his best foot forward.
I thought this same thing. Decade in the making this should've been at least 6 mins coulda been a classic instead we got 2 mins with a concept like this. Kendrick or even Drake would've done this justice

Would think after two years these cultist losers would stop derailing every single music discussion with Kendrick and Drake

I dont really get this, usually when you rhyme just to rhyme or get too caught up in a rhyme scheme it results in a lot of filler bars and lines that dont make the most logical sense. But this whole song is fully coherent and there's no wasted line

Some listeners aren’t used to cohesive storytelling and technical rhyming ability at the same time
To me that’s what separates Cole from other lyrical rappers. It’s rare to see both done at such a high level simultaneously
