I can tell off rip a lot of blood, sweat, tears, time, and effort was put into this album. It doesnāt sound like it was quickly thrown together at all.
There are some genuinely great songwriting moments on here. Some of the production choices surprised me coming from Cole, but some of the production did feel a little cheap as well.
But my biggest question is just why this was touted as his ten-years-in-the-making retirement album? Excluding some songs on Disc 39, most of the subject matter here is very similar to things Cole has been talking about his entire career. I didnāt really hear a drastic change in perspective like I was expecting to based on how he talked about the album

Goat YujiExactly what I was saying. He sounds just like that. I wanted an album from him rapping like his mixtapes for years. This s*** too good. He went back to his roots.
Unfortunately rap has changed so much so songs like this arenāt appreciated by the mainstream audience anymore. But trust people who care for the craft will f*** with it the long way. And I know thatās all Cole cares for. The message is very clear in the songs on who he doesnāt care to appease.

Iām actually surprised people seem to hate Disc 2 in here.
Some are very young to hip hop and didnāt grow up with it. They need concepts or some s*** not understanding the essence of hip hop. This is objectively a good rap album.

Which is crazy because like he acknowledged that things happen, but like as far as providing his own unique perspective or opinions? None that I can remember
