Disc 1
Has plenty of cool concepts, good rapping and a clear and concise presentation. Musically it lacks growth to me. Jcole becomes a better rapper with age but his musicality stays stagnant. He underestimates the power of collaboration in order to extend your musical palette and reach beyond your personal capabilities.
“Bunce road blues”is a standout because of the Tems feature and “The Let Out” falls flat despite a perfect setup at the end of “Drum and Bass” because he wants to do all the parts hisself even when he is not suitable to do so.
Lonely at the Top is my fav. I either like Cole making music for 2k or making this dreamy melancholic s***.
Finished Disc 1 and this wasn't anything special unfortunately. Literally just another Cole album. I think the problem I have with Cole is that he has zero emotional range so even if he is going to talk about something with substance (which he wasn't really doing here anyway) it's hard to resonate with when he feels so disconnected from what he is talking about.
His pen game has always been pretty weak to me too, songwriting skills even more so. I don't think theres another rapper that can get away with putting out so many lazy bars, not sure how he gets so much grace for it.
A lot of people say Cole has evolved as a lyricist (overblown) and I just wish I could have seen some evolution in him as an artist instead
OOOOOOHHHHHH WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUT WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUT WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUT WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUT
Was so excited for this album but man its so underwhelming
Hardly any hard hitting tracks I thought Port Antonio was the real teaser or even the Climb Back
Instead we got some country s*** and Cole singing
Every beat on the album sounds like a Splice demo
Idk about every beat but there’s definitely a hand-full
Nas, OutKast, Mobb Deep, Biggie/Pac, Common
Does every track on disk 2 pay homage to another hip hop artist?

Haven’t heard Disc 2 but feature wise I wish he would’ve did a little fan service and gave us some records with some of the greats especially if it is a dedication to Hip Hop concept
For example I would loved if he got some of the legends you listed on the album. Personally Dre x Cole would’ve been dope
Lupe x Cole would’ve made sense since they were in a rap collective together at one point although it was short lived
Cole x Common, Nas or QTip is a no brainer and where tf is Hov
You can do all that with an mp3 player my brother
and it would be incredibly inconvenient and hurt my ability to do everything I want
It’s just such a classist elitist thing lol
And no I’m not buying an mo3 player
Just got to What If
You have to be kidding me.
Have a delusional theory about this one
is the let out his new folding clothes?
The Let Out is dope tbh most interesting track I’ve heard from him
ok, i listened most of this and i have to defend disc 2 from y'all
there's a lot of exaggeration about how bad is this, but im not gonna lie , kinda enjoyed it more than the first half . I stopped after the man up above song because i arrived at work and this is a long ass album , but even the lyrical miracle songs were better in this half. for me the lowest point was the beginning of the first disc, run a train and safety was really boring and then it started to pick up at poor thang.
