Idk this just ain’t for me. The lyrics are up there but nothing about the prod excites me, was hoping for an experimental album from Cole

WHO TF IZ YOU a bron game 6 type performance cause the beat knocks and he got immaculate rhymes and confidence on it
hearing this album in full actually really shows me what my issue with cole's growth has been and exactly why i've said before he needs an EP to push him - cole is actually not a purist, he's a fence sitter. He can't double down on anything. He went in the direction of hyper-minimal purist rap and got critiqued for it so he flipped back and tried to make more commercial music while staying true to his formula but then got critiqued for that so then he went and made something way more commercial and mainstream. People then had different critiques so he hopped back and made something that's a weird in between. He needs to take an actual direction unapologetically. I actually really enjoyed the hyper-minimal purist rap direction he took on 4YEO and I think that would have been a really unique direction for someone of his stature in the industry to take. Instead he felt insecure with misguided critique of it coming off of an essentially semi-mainstream crossover success (2014FHD) and couldn't stick the course. this over-bloated, unguided album is the logical end result of being unable to put his weight behind something
I agree and I also think he's both gang. Like I've seen the fence sitting s*** (the commentary he walked back on Fire Squad about Macklemore and Iggy n em). Where I wanna give him grace (even though it's a bit frustrating) is that that this backtracking seems to be more than just insecurity but also him being earnest to a fault. He has more tricks in his bag than someone like Logic but there are parallels to be made. Personally, that earnest approach worked on FHD and that's the album I was like "ight I get it."

i have a take that i’ll stand on all day:
if your album sounds just as good on shuffle as it would in order, you dropped a glorified mixtape
Her Loss, HNVM and SH3 are classics
this is why they banished you to the iceman thread

What? Im barely on ktt these days
This was a miss and the new iceman snippet sounds boring as hell
mainstream hip hop finally dead man
Listening to any album with shuffle on sounds so wrong
This doesn’t make any sense to me at all man
