while i have grown to love this album (232 streams so far), i can completely understand the feeling that this album should feel differently based on the music he’s given us in the last 6 years leading up to this album

if it were up to me, the off-season (moved up on my list because of TFO) and MDL would not exist at all and TFO would’ve been a double album consisting of records from MDL, TOS & TFO. two separate albums released in two separate weeks

I have a loose thought that disc 29 should have been the “it’s a boy” mixtape with disc 39 being TFO but idk

    Yeah I second that

Realizing this album is what he wanted to make and not something intended for all of hip hop helps me understand this one more

This s*** is extremely personal to him and I appreciate that a lot

    Maybe it’s a boy wasn’t a music project

Maybe bruh literally had a kid lol that’s a project in a different way

Maybe a reach but maybe it was a hint at his personal life cause he the only one out of the big 3 who’s family is completely hidden from the public

  • Alexandrian

ngl i dont really like albums that you gotta listen to from start to finish. i prefer jumping around thats how rap was traditionally.

i do try to dedicate one listen to to hear it how the artist intended but i really do not like the sequencing on this particularly. hearing it in shuffle made me love songs that i originally didnt like

i also prefer to shuffle because usually im gaming, for whatever reason that s*** just hits better when im locked in on something and then im realizing what im hearing sounds fire

Yea and tbh I said “loose thought” because it’s not well thought out lol. I’m not saying 29 was intended to be IAB but I’m thinking how this release could have felt if disc 1 was released on its own as the appetizer with disc 2 being the album following 2-3 weeks later

i lowkey think this too but i wonder what made him not commit to it

    Really solid idea tbh

If it’s a boy was a literal kid then it would make sense that he would drop fall off and retire to raise his family

At this point he probably have like 3

my brother is a massive Cole fan, met him in 2010, been screaming forever he was gon be one of the best ever

he is HIGHLY disappointed lol called me and talked to me for a hour about how this is not what he wanted to hear

he even said he didnt need to put together an album where he returns home twice when he’s legit talked about it before (2014 FHD). listening to him say that made me realize he absolutely had a point lmao

like you said, he made the album for his own peace and i take that for what it is

  • Second disk has Quick Stop and doesn’t have the let out so it wins by default

  • i stopped caring about what i really want from a rapper (for the most part). Made me enjoy a lot of albums more. artists thrive better when they just make what they really want to do

  • Broscodolo

lol I gotta give it to J Cole. As a North Carolinian I have never had my phone blow up with so many different people in different cities telling me they just saw a celebrity🤣

a lot of niggas called me last night lol
I got family in greensboro hyped as s***

Yeah I can see where hes coming from. I’ve seen people saying Cole topic matter gotten redundant at times and get it.

But this album is the most Cole album he’s ever made in that sense for better or worse. Home for him seems to be everything and he resonates with it and tbh him being able to express life from a city no average person heard of until him is inspiring and respectful. A bit endearing even.

Its part of why the big 3 and hip hop is dead conversation is dumb

agreed, s*** is getting boring now seems like people aint really rap fans like that

It’s stupid as hell. I don’t know why Cole rapped about that s*** on FPS because he kind of made that s*** a bigger talking point again.

  • I know this album supposed to follow The come up, warm up and off season

But tbh it’s more in line with FHD and 4YEO narrative wise. His projects based on his life back home and his perspective of it

  • La Flame

Damn, so your dreams and your imagination was better than what you were actually listening to

    Got it

    probably

  • So when is this nigga dropping “The Come Back”?

  • Experiment626

Idk who you responded to but tell em!

He's allegedly the dude Cole spanked on Poor Thing

i listen to both of these artists

freddie just has better beats, thats it

  • 5th listen

    of one song

  • Prez

    I’m pretty sure I prefer 39 over 29

39 intro has the best rapping on the album

  • LUKAS
