Haven’t listened but noticed you said “album”. Is it better than FNL or The Warn Up?
I dont know if it hits the highs of FNL or The Warm Up but it does have a consistency that he’s only hit once before (FHD)
I still say this coulda been shorter but what I will give props to Cole for is he definitely did things “his” way. It may not have been the /best/ way or may not have been the most /smart/ way but he definitely stubbornly did a lot of s*** his way.
Even with the car s***, like I can’t even hate on that.
He’s probably (and this was always his biggest sell in the big 3) the most personable of the big 3 because he is the most “normal.” He had a traumatic family life (who hasnt in America) but he still was living a well…normal “dysfunctional” life (versus a kendrick “goddamn this s*** sounds like a movie” lamar) which does appeal to an audience.
Yall make jokes about how he “talks about how he knows someone with guns” and what not but…a lot more regular normal people know folks with guns versus they themselves having guns lol.
Tl;dr: I really do think his Red Leather verse is like a solid overview of his career/who he is as a person tbh.
Uh, I had to leave these green pine trees to get it
Said when I got it, I was gon' bring it back, b****, and guess what? I did it, uh
Left in a Civic, uh, came back in a Lamb'
Feelin' like Tupac in Atlanta, bought me two plots of land
Somewhere to duck off with my fam, practice my jumpshot in my gym
They thinkin' I'm too big to come home 'cause I got the planet Earth in my hand, uh
Nigga, what? I'm on Bragg right now
FPD behind me, he runnin' my tags right now
I can't be too upset, they got a reason to check
This s*** regular in New York, but the 'Ville ain't seen this yet
Now I'm gon' be who I'm gon' be regardless of the
Emblem that's drawn on the key, 'Ville nigga put on for N.C.
For somethin' that's hard to believe, shout out the dog Petey Pablo, he did that long before me
I just got home from a tour and I brought my partner with me
Let it run through freaks that stack they dollars
We learned it all on the streets in the V-I-L-L-E
Yeah the way he slid on this verse was insane
Up there with 39 Intro for best beat switch, that s*** fuego
Am I the only who keeps thinking it’s Kendrick saying “bitch” on WHO TF IZ U

His second vers in Who TF is U my gawd. The way he rapped this was elite
Every bar is a part of the murder wrath
Call PETA, them people choppin' a bird in half
Breakin' further down to whatever's gon' earn the math
Exchange pounds for dollars and never converted cash
Welcome to the South where they servin' the dirt and grass
The streets ain't safe, I prefer the deserted path
Was walkin' with my Walkman one day when I heard a blast
Loud enough to shatter the earth into thirds, I gasped
Hauled ass and my legs got to turnin' fast
Straight past the victim, he hobblin', hurtin' bad
Heard way back he slick, tried to take half a brick
They say payback's a b**** and I guess he incurred a tab
While they was masterin' scales like they learnin' jazz
I was makin' sure they refer to my first and last
Name, Jermaine Cole, with Hall of Fame flows
From Cain Road with 'caine sold on the dang low
Do anything for bankroll that you can't fold
But ridin' through the block is detectives in plain clothes
Which likely means soon you'll be singin' familiar tunes
In interrogation rooms gettin' questioned by Zane Lowe

Literally listening to this rn that’s crazy

I come from the brokest of homes

It's 7 o'CLOCK on the DOT
I'm in my DROP TOP, cruising the streets
Yeah, this is his best album. There's no need to even overthink it anymore.
Cole knocked this one out of the park.
Shoulda been longer and it's own s***
not tied to the last switch/verse
Life Sentence and Only You back to back really hit as a married man
Especially Life Sentence obviously
Only You is s***
Yeah it’s the worst song on the album to me
“Someone that's close to me is facin' time
My mind's racin' for some way to find hope that he may be fine
He got a son the same age as mine
I can't imagine spendin' days in a cage not raisin' mine
These are the years with our kids where we strengthen bonds
I paid his bond, but the trial's comin'
Yo, rain or shine, I know his child love him
But he's too young to understand it if the outcome is incarceration
The charges facin' bring the possibility of long vacations and complications
With his baby mom
She daily cryin', sayin' her heart is vacant
He tryna make it work, he wanna fake it for the sake of family
But she keep throwin' old s*** right in his face, apparently
Remindin' him 'bout how he tried to make her take a plan B
And abort the seed
Threatenin' him with child support so that the court can seize and garnish wages
And all this was before he caught this case that's brought the latest
Pile of stress to add to all this mess, it's hard to face it”
My brother is facing time for a gun charge, trail is in May, they told him they were gonna give him 50 years to try to get him to take a plea deal where he would serve 1-3 years but he denied it because he wants to fight it. The cops didn’t have probable cause to search his car to begin with. His son is a few years older than mine and he has a 2 year old daughter
Prayers up man 🙏

Future had the strongest verse and it's so short. How does he do it
