Nah I do like some white rappers, but to me Hip-Hop is about escaping struggle or pain. I understand that's not everyone's view so I'm getting different perspectives on the subject.

bro have u been living under a rock for the past 30 years? hip hop hasnt been about escaping struggle or pain for a long f***ing time now

How is that unhinged ? Buying your way into the industry is very common, whether it’s being able to afford notable features, production, studio time/equipment, co-signs, visuals, A&R meetings etc etc

Obviously the artist being marketed has to have SOME kind of it factor and it doesn’t make them bad people but OP’s point of mainstream artists rarely being self-made holds weight

his parents make signs for hospitals and s*** like that, and to top it off they only own a franchise of the company not even the company itself lol

Please tell me what your economic background has to do with your rapping ability lmao

I dont listen to Jack Harlow but im pretty sure hes not rapping about how he came from the mud or whatever

Not just about economics, it's also about struggle. Drake and Ye might be 'softer' than dust rappers but they still had unique struggles and pain growing up.

Maybe Jack had struggles that people don't see, but the way he moves doesn't represent that. And if people are moving towards an era where rap doesn't have to represent struggle anymore, then it is what it is.

    wtf r u saying?

the nigga made the biggest reach of all time by saying a local sign company has connections to hollywood marketing agencies

    its absolutely unhinged

People are reaching in this thread way more than I am lol

Never said they were connected to Hollywood or the deep industry, I said they had money. Even if it's a franchise, they're still CEOs, probably make at least 6 figures, and they have networks. They got his foot in the door. He put in work after that, but that's still a major advantage over kids who have nothing.

If that's the new normal, that's fine. It's the culture now. Again, I'm just seeing where people are at.

people are allowed to rap even if its just out of pure passion or joy

Run-DMC were middle class college graduates
