There’s a rough juvenile edge in Bait Ones that you can only achieve by being a 22 year old Londoner paving the way for the future of digital music in the internet age
It’s something that really characterizes the project, and I think many people will instead use it to characterize jai and criticize the next work on the basis of such a quality being absent
i agree, there are so many factors that play into jai's early career and that helped make BTSTU, Jasmine and the rest of bait ones so special and hit so hard, and it only makes sense that the guy's music would change over 10 years. You're so right about bait ones coming from a guy in his youth, seeing a future that doesn't yet exist and doing things precisely his way just before music blog culture was about to peak and way before streaming.
I kind of look to He/DYLHN as an indicator of his style maturing because it seems to me that those tracks were recorded much more recently even if they were written long ago. The production shift from like cyberpunk J Dilla to a more refined, sparse D'Angelo influenced sound makes sense.
however his music changes though he's the literal GOAT.
anyone have the og good time with the harry potter sample?
anyone got a link to jai's performance? Need something GOOD to watch after this let down of a frank performance
That’s where YOU come in Quest
quest need to get up to speed. Crazy how he don’t know of jai Paul when 2 palladinos are in his band
damn i hope jai dont see this
wouldnt be surprised if quest is his favourite drummer
quest should know that jai is the exception to most industry standards because he is just that good. I mean he knew dilla.
Wish I could talk to bro about this cause ain’t no way
Soon enough he’ll be saying
I get that he is white America's musical negro but Questlove really ain't tapped into modern music like that
