This is rich coming from James Blake lol, you can sum up his discography pretty well in the length of a tiktok. Your whole discography sounds like a 15 second clip repeating so what’s the issue

damn bro, did James blake your b**** ?

Consumption has changed to be sure but you could highkey argue that music in the 90s was just an aesthetic component of people’s personal identity, discs to put in your cars or your room with visuals and branding that you identify with somehow. It was just a projection of people’s personality whether a preppy pop girl or a grunge skater dude

Going all the way back to 60s and 70s and 80s when what you listened to definitely depends on if you’re a “jock” or a “freak” or a “hippie” or whatever

Lowkey this has always been popular music’s function to the general public. It’s mostly just teenagers identifying with branding or aesthetic lol

I would say more so posters and magazines. Either way tho, the disc was with you when you were driving and living with it. I think my point is that now with social media and the fact you can just throw in the trending 15 seconds of a song by a simple search, you’re not going to really live with the song as much as you would in the 90s.

I would agree tho that music has always been part of a culmination of identity tho.

By your logic Beyonce, Kanye, SZA, Usher, 21 Savage and f***ing Bobby Caldwell make "TikTok ass music" just because they have a popular song on there

That's...not at all my logic kiddo lol

It’s always been a component of personal identity, but music in today’s society has been more detached from people than ever before.

On a simple level, the majority of people don’t even own the music they listen to. That’s such a detrimental effect on the relationship that music has with a person’s life.

We’ve never lived in a time where that has been the case for the majority of people

We all know "separate the art from the artist" is just some bullshit people come up with in a desperate attempt to ignore the fact that their favorite artist is a sack of s*** but they still support them lol

Not really. Cornballs like you who like to conflate an artist’s personal life with their music only exist on the internet. No one cares about the evil weird s*** artists do irl.

It also implies that people like this ONLY consume/buy art & products from morally sound artists & creators & brands & businesses & etc. It’s just a completely asinine concept

He has an opinion you don’t like he didn’t commit a crime lol . There is nothing you have to separate James Blake from . You don’t make music at the same level so you aren’t even informed enough to disagree

These sorts of people don’t even know what they want to happen to artists that are bad people.

Like what are we supposed to do with someone like Miles Davis who was a notorious wife beater? No longer account for his contributions to music? No longer consider him influential? Pull all of his music off of streaming and stores?

It’s just being on a moral high horse and preening. I wish they could get this feeling actually going out into the world and doing something useful for humanity.

Facts, like you can acknowledge that “hey, this person was a piece of s*** human being” but also that “their art was pretty important and impactful”.

Also, if you choose to personally not engage in someone’s art because of their personal choices, that’s fine. But it’s the people who try to villainize other regular people for still engaging in their art which makes zero sense to me.

Or the people that let their opinion of an artist’s personal life dictate their opinion of their art, that’s stupid too

A pedophile and someone who says dumb s*** ( no matter how hateful ) are two exponentially different things. One person damn near deserves death the other deserves to get their ass beat

When you conflate the two as if they are comparable you look like an idiot who views pedophilia as something much lighter than it is
