its crazy people were touting him next to radiohead and aphex twin and stuff from st to overgrown, and then it just feels like each release felt less and less visible, making less and less of an impact.

i also kinda fell of with the releases despite being a ginormous fan in 2011-2014ish.

but this new one is amazing.

    INSANE run of songs with

i had a dream she took my hand
    trying times
    make something up
    didn't come to argue
    days go by

rest of your life, through the high wire and just a little higher are incredible songs to end the album on.

the way some of these songs weave soul type samples, acoustic/electric guitars, typical james blake synth wizardry. really unique mix

this also made me go back to playing robots into heaven and that one is crazy too

gonna try friends that break your heart next. remember finding that one a bit too safe and i could look at the cover for very long

  • Just a little higher is a career high

Incorporates everything I love about james, the storytelling and emotion on that track really take you on a journey

Then when those buzzing synths come in, almost feels like rays of light lifting you up

And then everything fades but the piano remains, and he plays it so beautifully

    Aim
Just a little higher (that's it)
    Just a little higher
    Adjust your sights
    You're almost right

song of the year. personally. Nothing like James just makes me levitate. His sounds just envelop you. Transcendent, healing music.

  • Didn't love this on first listen but I'll give it another try at some point

    Dave's verse was tough tho

  • KuhPuh

Peaked with his debut in all honesty for me

    same unfortunately

assume form and retrograde were great projects tho

  • WAR tonight

  • Apr 2

I like this tape, it made me realize how much he reminds me of bon iver lmaoooo idk why

  • Surprised at the sound and how good it is!!

We might need to have a conversation about James Blake

He hasn’t missed with one album bro

And this is again something we’ve never heard from him

  • Make somethjng up 🐐

  • Intro so hard too

  • provider

Make Something Up is tough as hell. Who knew that's the type of sound I need from James Blake

šŸ’Æ my first listen today i didn’t expect it

I was there man! Post ST into Overgrown era hype, acclaim, praise and visibility was huge and I distinctly remember him drawing comparisons to those acts.

they (wrongly) compared him to arthur russell at one point but otherwise he was just regular hessle / r&s s***

i've had a similar experience with his music too. the first concert i went to was james in 2016

i used to looooveee a lot of his older work (the colour of anything was the soundtrack to my final year of high school)

the last album i listened to was assume form lol. i'm just tapping into trying times now, we'll see if i like it or not
