Yup and Dot right behind him pause
Cole was at the Chapelle block party
He’s actually in the documentary @KILLACAM300 you see him for like a few seconds
For those who don’t know, Cole used to go to the same barbershop as Consequence and B.Dot Miller and has known them since 2007. He’s been around Ye since then cause Ye used to go there too, but Cole (and Drake) viewed him in an OG air, their words. Cole was already signed to Sony in 2008 by the time Jay-Z found him (also Rit Ora) which is why “Roc Nation” functions as a management company and pseudo-label under UMG which allowed Cole to distribute his first album after FNL on both Sony and UMG, as Cole was searching for profit margins.
In fact, it was a 2 album deal that Jay-Z negotiated after Sideline Story, cause Sony and UMG are in the credits of Born Sinner, and 2014FHD but only Sony and Roc Nation are in the credits for FNL and Sideline Story, while after it’s just UMG/Roc Nation.
So yea, Cole was probably always going to be here cause Consequence wanted to sign him in 2008 when Cole was trying to get out of his new Sony deal which is where Jay-Z swooped in and scooped buddy up, did his typical Jay-Z thing, and got a rising star out of a bad deal under his wing. Rode out that contract with two classic albums and got buddy fully under UMG.
Then a decade later, Cole has circled back and purchased all those masters that Sony owned (FNL, Sideline Story, Born Sinner, 2014FHD) ☝🏾🤓
