Not much is known so this write up will be brief. She’s a talented vocalist who had a short recording career with a few projects.

Miho is a talented singer who had a funky city pop outfit called “Chocolate Lips” which lasted one lp only. Then she did a OVA soundtrack called “California Crisis” After that she teamed up with a group called “Pazz” for one lp. Sometimes in the 90’s she decided to form a duo with this producer-musician called “Pas Chat” & they released 2 lp’s. (Cant find them, didn’t include them) After that she did a solo lp in 2011 called Mistress (unable to locate) I believe she is currently a session voice over artist who makes a good living in Japan.

This drop consists of 2 project’s.

Chocolate Lips is different because she is in a band with two black american men who seem to have made a concerted effort to carve out a living in Japan. If I was to take a wild guess why they named their group lips, Lips Inc had a worldwide disco hit in 79 with “Funkytown”. I can only imagine that might be part of the inspiration of the name but I’m just speculating. Chocolate is probably the most obvious. A trio consisting of a saxophonist, bassist & singer. The rest of the band are hired session pro’s who fit the job with ease for their role in this project. One thing of note that I found interesting is there are little to no synth drums or drum machine, there’s only a live drum kit holding pocket. That’s kinda rare for 84 with R&B based bands. Cool synth sounds, pretty basic verse/chorus/verse. One song weekend lover reminds me of George Duke’s Shine on a little bit on the verse section.

    Suggested if you like:
    Cameo
    Mtume
    Sos Band
    Lipps Inc
    Chic
    The Time
    Dazz Band
    George Duke
    Kool & the Gang
    Rufus
    Slave

California Crisis is a soundtrack to a semi popular ova series in Japan with the same title. It’s brief in nature, only about 20 minutes. ( these are included as bonus tracks on the remaster of Chocolate Lips project. Convenient ) It is along the same lines even though different musicians. I would say it is a bit of the continuation of that sound. Even though there is no saxophone that I notice on this project. There’s some cool synth lines on this one. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bassist from Chocolate Lips was on this session.
Anyone ever heard of California Crisis? Me either.

I was going to include the 3rd project but she really is just a background singer and it’s kinda pointless to this drop. So I’m not including it because you really can’t hear her other than adlibs here n there. Maybe if we cover these other artist’s in this group?

And that’s the drop in a nutshell. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy it. I will definitely be featuring more female Japanese artists in my drops. Again, I have a few in the works. Please check out the other city pop drop which I did a few weeks ago. That one is a bit more extensive with project’s. Lots of cool stuff, if you are feeling this week’s drop and you are new to me and my mission.

That’s it, see y’all tomorrow to end this week with the soul r&b drop which I have selected painstakingly for the fam. This time for your listening pleasure, he was in a band with Hendrix. It isn’t JHE or Band of Gypsys. Maybe we can spot him in a band photo. Any outcome he’s still a bad mf.

AND then….next week all new selections and likely the return to synthworks thread with a different figure to be faced with. As well as some other drop’s which I will decide when I get there.

Thanks for everyone stopping by. Much love to drop fam.
