Only people who don't know much about Islam say stuff like that (not trying to be rude). There are clear basic principles that, if you break them or don't believe in them, take you automatically out of the fold of Islam, and they are well defined. I'm not gonna get into specifics but for example if you don't believe (or think they are wrong) in the 5 pillars of Islam or in the 7 articles of faith you are a non-muslim, no matter what you yourself believe you to be. This is something agreed on by ALL islamic scholars for the last 1400 years (obviously it's more nuanced, you can be excused if you didn't fully understand something etc., just used that as an example).

It's no different then me saying I'm a socialist but don't believe that workers should own the means of production, or saying I'm a christian but not believing in Jesus etc. It's not gatekeeping or a 'No True Scotsman' situation.

If you want to know what beliefs that NoI hold are that take them out of Islam, well I could write a whole essay on that.

Muhammad Ali AND Malcolm X (easily two of the most prominent ex-members of this cult) denounced it and embraced REAL Islam and performed their pilgrimages (God grant both of them heaven).

Yes all of this is true, but it's a lil different with the noi cause they believe and preach all those 5 pillars but have a different interpretation than mainstream islam

I just used that as an example. But here's one of the reason why they aren't considered mainstream Islam: I'm sure you know that the Quran is considered the literal word of god to muslims, meaning you can't disagree with even a single word because then you aren't a "muslim" (muslim = follower of God). Believing there are mistakes or that some verses are wrong or disagreeing with something = takes you out of Islam (again, this is more nuanced but you get the point).

This completely goes against what the Quran says about Yakub and that takes them out of Islam.

I could give you more examples, but I don't want to derail this thread too much.
