I'm honestly baffled by why y'all seem to think this man has slaps... I mean, I understand why Geriatric Hov thinks he does because Alzheimers and alladat but why do YOU, a clearly thinking person with access to streaming numbers think this man is seeing Drake or Wayne or even Lil Baby or Youngboy in a hit battle.
Last semi-hit he had was Holy Grail and he was carried by JT.
First Billboard number 1 he had was Empire State of Mind and he was carried by Keys.
During his post retirement "run" he was bridal carried by Kanye.
Prior to his retirement he had one or two hood anthems but let's face it, he was never that guy when it came to hits.
So what's actually giving this man (aside from his untreated dementia) the confidence to say all this?
I'm actually baffled.
The problem with Verzus is that it really isn't a "hit" battle. If it was, no one would see Drake.
It's really just about washed up artists whose catalogs have been forgotten going up on stage and playing their most well-aged/nostalgic songs to their fans who haven't heard those songs in many years and drumming up feelings of good times.
Whoever does that the best wins the battle.

Name 10 BIG songs without Google
"Niggas couldn’t do nothing with me, they put the devil on me
I'd have preferred niggas to squeeze the metal on me
Rumors of Lucifer, I don’t know who to trust
Whole world want my demise—turn the music up
Hear me clearly: If y’all niggas fear me, just say y'all fear me
F*** all these fairytales"
"Bitch, I said I was amazing
Not that I'm a Mason
It’s amazing that I made it through the maze that I was in
Lord forgive me, I never would've made it without sin"
"Bitch, I'm red-hot
I'm on my third six, but a devil I'm not
My Jesus-piece flooded
But thou shall not covet—keep your eyes off my cupboard
I'm a bad motherfucker, it's Hov, just say you love it"

You right, and in that case he's still not winning because Nelly and em would wash him.

That's why anyone who knows their catalog and still views themselves as culturally relevant will never agree to do a Verzus battle. It's always the ones who are washed up and damn near forgotten that jump at the chance to do it so they can remind folks about their catalog and how great and relevant their music used to be.

Not my fault you were born in 1978
I was mad at the title but you're not wrong unless you count story of oj as a "hit"
Edit - Story of oj isn't even certified platinum
OP ain't wrong. Jay Z doesn't have a lot of "hits". He has good-to-great songs that are decades old and hold a soft spot in the hearts of many rap fans. He plays songs like that and people will give him an automatic win for the Verzus battle just off the nostalgia alone. Same thing with Kanye. They'll only win a Verzus based off the work they've released decades ago, not off anything they've dropped 5-7 years ago.
4:44 wasnt an album made to have hit songs
His career is so long, he has a lot of solo hits already. He the GOAT
I really didn't even hear it on radio like that. If billboard don't prove it what else is there? I got no suggestions. Hov of all rappers is all about the numbers
And he's been outdone numbers-wise by lots of niggas lol.
My man had to dance with satanists and pack his videos with fake illuminati symbolism for clout and still couldn't get a solo hit

Big really shouldn’t be on the top 5 tho
Jay Z's strongest hits post retirement would be:
1. DoA
2. Run This Town
3. Empire
4. Niggas in Paris
5. Otis
6. You Know I Got It
7. Holy Grail
8. Tom Ford
9. Swagger Like Us
10. Story of OJ
Let's face it, even Kung Fu Kenny (who isn't exactly a hitmaker) is beating that.
That's just laughable compared to Drake or Kanye or Wayne.
Most of these songs aren't doing s*** in a battle, though. They've mostly aged terribly, especially a song like DOA.
