My guy I need your warped brain to understand this. Most people above the age of 20 don’t run to a billboard to find out if they love a song or feel like it’s wavy. Numbers are almost meaningless and heavily influenced by label money.
Jay Z is probably never going make music that goes #1 again. That doesn’t mean that his output isn’t excellent.
His last solo 4:44 had no hits, but damn near the whole thing can be played front to back and sounds as fresh today as it did in 2017.
That is the lasting power of good music. It’s what keeps him in the conversation. Capeesh?

thegreatdivineOP ain't wrong. Jay Z doesn't have a lot of "hits". He has good-to-great songs that are decades old and hold a soft spot in the hearts of many rap fans. He plays songs like that and people will give him an automatic win for the Verzus battle just off the nostalgia alone. Same thing with Kanye. They'll only win a Verzus based off the work they've released decades ago, not off anything they've dropped 5-7 years ago.

Jay Z was the numbers guy till he stopped putting up numbers. Then the narrative changed to "fuck Billboard" and "we don't care about streams here" after buying a whole streaming service to get in on the money being generated and the streaming service failing and forcing him to sell off parts of it.
When are y'all gonna see that this man will be for something as long as he can benefit from it. The moment he can't, he'll try to make it seem uncool but he's lost that power decades ago. That's why DOA aged like milk.
