I'm honestly baffled by why y'all seem to think this man has slaps... I mean, I understand why Geriatric Hov thinks he does because Alzheimers and alladat but why do YOU, a clearly thinking person with access to streaming numbers think this man is seeing Drake or Wayne or even Lil Baby or Youngboy in a hit battle.

Last semi-hit he had was Holy Grail and he was carried by JT.

First Billboard number 1 he had was Empire State of Mind and he was carried by Keys.

During his post retirement "run" he was bridal carried by Kanye.

Prior to his retirement he had one or two hood anthems but let's face it, he was never that guy when it came to hits.

So what's actually giving this man (aside from his untreated dementia) the confidence to say all this?

    I'm actually baffled.

Young people do not listen to jay and never will

People my age want albums to sit with. Not formulaic hits. We’re his audience

I was mad at the title but you're not wrong unless you count story of oj as a "hit"

Edit - Story of oj isn't even certified platinum

    People forget

    Hits people Carried him

Meek Roos and Khaked on They don’t love you

    Future on Top Offf

    Future I got the keys

He said Eminem music has heart lmaooo that s*** must be going thru palpitations..

    Define songs like

    Rock bottom
    If i had
    Darkness
    Sing for the moment
    Difficult
    Hailes song
    Mockingbird
    When im gone
    Lose Yourself
    Headlights
    Cleaning out my closer
    Deja Vu
    Beautiful

List goes on, nobody can deny that Em makes heartfelt music. It might not br what YOU relate to but trust me, millions of others do.

A hit is a hit why does it matter if it isn't solo? Then you moved goalposts even more talkin bout post retirement.

Technically anything in the top 40 is a hit

This isn't what a hit means.

  • Dec 22, 2021

Tom Ford was 2013. Also Holy Grail was not a semi hit that was a smash.

Jay is the most overrated, not just rapper, but artist in music history imo. He gets mentioned as the GOAT and its just baffling to me lmao. Dude is a poor mans Biggie..had 15+ years on the man and still hasn't even come close to having as many hits/iconic songs as BIG has.

Was never the top guy in rap. EVER. Pac and BIG ran the mid 90s. When both died, Diddy ran NY. To the point Jay had to copy his style/videos to try to get numbers like Diddy and the Bad Boy crew. 50 and Em were bigger than him in the early 00s(though he was firmly #3).

Ye and Wayne were bigger than him mid to late 00's. Got destroyed by Nas. Said autotune was going to die, only for it to get bigger than ever after DOA

His biggest hit ever was Empire in 09...which, let's be honest...was an Alicia song that Jay added sleepy ass verses on. Without her, song is nothing. NYC old heads act like he was 20 iconic hits lol na bruh. He has more street hits than actual hits.

Ye saved his career if we're being real. And Jay is a smart man. Watch him jump back on the Ye wagon now that he's back to being beloved. WTT2 2022. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Totally forgot about those, remember f***ing with Show Me and Blue Magic heavy but my brain just classed them as pre-retirement.

We need a Jayz stan on here to make a 20 song hit list cause some of these takes are terrible.

OP ain't wrong. Jay Z doesn't have a lot of "hits". He has good-to-great songs that are decades old and hold a soft spot in the hearts of many rap fans. He plays songs like that and people will give him an automatic win for the Verzus battle just off the nostalgia alone. Same thing with Kanye. They'll only win a Verzus based off the work they've released decades ago, not off anything they've dropped 5-7 years ago.

This is such a s*** take lol

Are we seriously gonna act like it's a suprise that 2 artists who have been making music for 20 to 30 years would have their best be from one of those decades and not the current one?

"Of JAY-Z's 100 solo entries, he's reached No. 1 four times: first with “Heartbreaker,” with Mariah Carey in 1999 (for two weeks), then with “Crazy In Love,” with Beyonce in 2003 (eight weeks), “Umbrella,” with Rihanna, in 2007 (seven weeks) and “Empire State of Mind,” with Alicia Keys, in 2009 (five weeks).."

this y'all goat? plays Ready To Die and has 5 better hits in the first 5 songs, without massive R&B singers carrying

This isn't what a hit means.

In the United States and the United Kingdom, a single is usually considered a hit when it reaches the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 or the top 75 of the UK Singles Chart and stays there for at least one week.

Who gives a f*** where it peaked that song was everywhere 2017-18

And was used as the backdrop for one of the goat diss tracks

It's influence matters more than peaking on a chart

  • Dec 22, 2021

Y’all still don’t get how few people know let alone care where exactly a random song placed on the charts

Such an “in the moment” figure

I deadass think some users will watch a Versuz with their computer in hand and decide if a song wins over the other based on what Wikipedia mentions about their chart placements
