He woke up seeing 4:44 on the clock when he was going through problems in marriage, and he said the number 4 was just coming up a lot in his life, this is his explanation

My guess from that is part of the number 4 being on his mind is while he was making this highly personal album that seemed like it could be a swan song/leave it all in the booth situation, that he probably toyed with the idea of calling it In My Lifetime Vol 4 or something. Then maybe he thought of the fact that Blueprint would also be on its 4th volume if he were to go that route with the more famous series

In this mindset the title of course represents the title track and the specific marital stuff discussed and the time of waking up stressed in the midst of it or something, but also hints at a completion of Jay’s career arc giving a “4th volume” of one or both of his great series and leaving on “Legacy”

I know this is kind of reach territory going into it this deep but I got some likes so maybe people don’t think this is that crazy. I just always took the 4s as a hint to something like that and jay is known to be layered and self referential on this level
