I think this is going to be impactful in the long run. Not because this specific claim is 100% rock solid, but more so because it opens up a new mainstream conversation on a lot of the smoke that’s surrounded Jay-Z for decades now. And there’s a lot of smoke just floating out there. This allegation will be the magnifying glass that will make people dig into each one.

Feel like as a culture there’s a fever like interest in conspiracy theories especially within hip-hop fandom but just generally as well. It pre-dates Kendrick throwing out PDF accusations, but Kendrick also primed an environment where people will run with these kinds of accusations, for better or worse. Look at the fanfare that occurred with that hotel employee and the wheelchair guy. Multiply that by a million.

There’s also new media now more than ever. It’s not the same legacy media organizations who are going to report and “break news” on this story and the stories to come.

There’s no sacred cows in hip-hop which may be a good thing or a bad thing.

idk about standards, this more about basic human decency imo
but i can look through a critical lens here and there

I just read earlier that Aretha Franklin had her first child when she was 12 and her second when she was 14 with a different dude and she was from the church/gospel crowd. it's disturbing and disgusting but apparently fairly normal back in those days. So to look back on Elvis, Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry etc like they were the only ones doing that at the time, and let the information taint your enjoyment of their work doesn't make alot of sense.

If you wanted to go after Plant or Steve Tyler that was be fine cause they were actively pursued the 14 year olds but Bowie just got baboozled by the professional groupies that were running amok afaict

i get where ur coming from but the entire point is that this isn’t just a rap unique thing, i remember another person said something similar to “not being able to listen to rap ever again” when the Diddy s*** came out

there’s skeletons in the closet for a lot of great artists across all genres, regardless you know im a supporter of separating art from artist

enjoy the music and take it at that, these people can’t be placed on a pedestal

    White in their eras Elric

    That’s why it’s not shocking

Black people on most crimes more likely to be held accountable

While you are listing those black artist don’t forget to list the Epstein clients that got released this year all with no consequences

Don’t forget lex wezner originator or Victoria secret no consequences

Bill Clinton still used as a prop no consequences

Everybody has their line I guess. I'm not trying to hear R Kelly sing about s***or heard Diddy adlib TAKE THAT TAKE THAT TAKE THAT anymore cause I know the severity of their crimes. My gf can't stand hearing Chuck Berry song Sweet Little Sixteen cause she knows he was 33 when he took a 14 year old prostitute across state lines. I still listen to it but I understand why she can't.

One of the greatest things in 2024 is the death of celebrity culture or stan culture. Of course, stans will always exist but most regular people are starting to see celebrities for what they are.

Listen to the music. Its all good but don’t expect Kendrick to go to war for you
