I cant f***ing make a new thread but i wanted to update everyone with an idea

I made this thread years ago

Around the middle point of last decade there was some really good acts that popped up alongside the other popular music at the time. Travis basically took this part of the genre and made it "mainstream" with Rodeo. with lots of these beloved artists at the time:

    • Two-9
    • Flatbush Zombies
    • ScHoolboy Q
    • Pro-ERA
    • Yung Simmie
    • Early Vince Staples
    • A$ton Matthews
    • Robb Banks
    • A$AP
    • BONES
    • Yung Lean
    • Underachievers
    • Casey Veggies (lol)
    • Riff Raff even
    • Juicy J

but basically there were so many artists who had bar heavy songs, lots of rapping about d**** and conspiracy s***, "waking up your 3rd eye", some very deep s*** being talked about on these tracks

Im under the impression that soon we're going to get a dramatic shift in rap/hip-hop where this style of rap is going to come back as a big "fuck you" to whatever stuff is being made right now. Dark beats, dark lyrics, anger at the world, d**** (lots and lots of d****), and some very psychedelic stuff

  • @mods Can I take control of this thread? It's the only one I want back!

We're ahead of the wave, in about a year or two everyone is going to flock to this type of music.

"Holy s*** I missed out!" type stuff.

Alot of people like this stuff and era, but they have no clue how to define it. @Rockman already posted Cloud Rap which sort of overlaps into this (shoutout Rockman) but other than that this stuff is SO forgotten but it was one of the best waves of rap ever (in my life at least).

yea this was just more lyrical mainstream evolution of cloud rap at the time
    weird in between period
some great music though for sure

Agreed. Extremely fun era of rap. Definitely some overlap with dudes like sgp and lil ugly mane too, and I'd even say Gucci got in his trippy bag here and there (trap god 1, servin off trap god 2, random stuff on ww3 tapes).

Unfortunately their gone off of Spotify, they used to have their entire mixtape central on it, but they removed it.

@Andre_Mackonen Yeah, it sucks that not many people are still rapping to this type of beats anymore. It's SERIOUSLY held up well. I honestly don't think it will ever go out of style because the whole idea is that it's supposed to be "out there" and weird. Maybe this wave will get a resurgence soon, because with a modern twist it will turn heads and shift the dynamic.

the wave does still exist its just evolved and merged with other cloud rap traditions really. Listen to city of crows by sickboyrari for example. You can feel its DNA everywhere, just different times

I remember "Black Kray", I'll look through his Spotify. I still miss this s*** so much, it was easily the best time of my life (personally) and honestly in terms of music it was so hard to keep up because there were too many artists popping. Even looking through this thread you see so many random/underground dudes who NEVER popped off but were making high quality music.
