LANA coming soon.
She makes valid points but a lot of them were kinda shaky
Like her point about smoke doesn't really make sense. Her wanting to scrap that video last minute and being upset that vid was getting viewed enough despite it being 500k in less than 2 weeks is crazy.

For clarity she's not talking about Smoke, it's clear she loves that record and video. She's referring to her appearance on "The Terrell Show" she communicated to her team she didn't want the episode to come out, and it did anyway without her even getting to see/clear it. It's unclear from her statement if that ever got to Terrell's team, I'm sure they'll put out their own statement.
What else did you think was shaky?

i wonder why she didn't want that video to come out?
i wonder why she didn't want that video to come out?
iirc she said it painted a narrative of her looking like a victim or something I don’t remember @provider wasn’t it something like that?

she said kinda. I haven't watched it myself yet but all I see (besides clips of her wonderful singing) is how Terrell gave her some great big speech about her desire to get off social media, and presumably mental health in general. In hindsight it was probably something she felt really awkward about, like why are we making a moment when I just came to sing and have fun? that's what I get out of it, hearing her say she doesn't want people to feel pity for her or make her the face of mental health. And people will say, well, stop posting your aggravations on social media. But she addressed that too - nobody's listening in real life.
so i listened to her whole video/rant. yea the frustration seems to come directly down to not being promoted. she's paying for her own google ads??
If everyone would just follow what The Weeknd did there would be a lot of happier artists. You cannot sign to one of the biggest artists ever and make it to whatever level she feels like she should be on. It’s just never happened ever.

Ahh that makes more sense if she was referring to that. But wouldn't that showing be considered promotion and marketing tho ?
And her point about how the labels dropped the ball on smoke, i just don't see that being the case
The funniest thing about Ari to me was watching her talk about how she had no ass
Then finding out she ain't have no ass

Young Money Entertainment. just the first to come to mind.

haha yes she went on there for promo, but I don't think she wanted the focus to be outside of music which is what it sounded like it turned into.
it's tricky because, of course, Smoke and its video are tied to mental health too. so naturally the subject would be hard to avoid when it comes time to promote. but yeah I haven't watched The Terrell Show episode yet to gauge the situation fully.
her point about the labels is they drop a quick tweet and IG post on the Dreamville page about the release on the day it comes out, then that's where it stops. they don't "believe in digital marketing" (quoting Ari) but that's where marketing lives today.
her making a big announcement of a mailing list for her fans to be able to follow her music, only for it to end up being for ALL Interscope artists, is grimy lol. the communication should be better.

https://twitter.com/dreamville/status/1847237553390285184Yeah i was bout to say, I feel the mental health aspect of the convo goes hand in hand with the song and vid
And yeah her points of the Google/Ig ads and mailing list were valid especially since those are easy to do, even if I kinda disagree with the effectiveness

yea i mean every artist should have a direct mailing list. that's easy and simple.
shea butter baby was bigger than i realized. looking at the views for the videos and they're in the tens of millions.
she said she found out the mailing list she gave her fans to follow isn't even personally hers, it's for all interscope artists
are you f***ing kidding me? that's ridiculous lmao
oh god niggas gotta just go indie at this point lol.

direct mailing lists are way more effective than ig likes that's a fiddact.

She even said in the video that that's not what she wants to do. She just wants s*** to be handled correctly. But she's being left with no other options, it seems

this collapsing industry will not last much longer
She took down the live from her page. Wonder where this goes from here
Get Ib on the phoneeee
as a fellow 90s baby, I do feel really bad for her and other artists of our generation that really grew up thinking s*** was gonna go one way.
And as soon as they blow up, literally everything they ever knew was different. It's a sad realization that understandably, lot of artists aint gonna acknowledge cause...denial is better and the truth hurts.
and probably before signing to Interscope she was prolly introduced to staff that no longer was working over there as soon as she signed (artists like KRIT talk about that happening to them too) so no one in the building that truly knew what she needed as far as career goes.
But yeah, this industry is collapsing dawg. R&B like @SOLARIS said aint nearly prioritized either.

Shea Butter Baby is Goosebumps for the coco butter crowd
