It’s DEFINITELY not 1-4. That’s reserved from the perfect/near perfect albums.

JIK is faaaaar below the 1-4 slots for me but I can definitely say it’s cemented at #5 as of this week.

The album is just too f***ing good. The more I listen to it. The more Sunday services I see. The more music videos that come out. It all makes me love the album more and more every time. It keeps getting better and better and I don’t know when it’s going to stop moving upwards for me.

For the people who CANT see its genius, I can only guess that it’s because they don’t have any good memories associated with it. As you all know, I have Israel/Egypt/Jordan, as well as other incredibly fond memories with amazing scenery that I have made this album the soundtrack to. So maybe you just need to get a cooler life? S*** I probably wouldn’t like it either if I just listened to it in my parent’s basement all the time, you know?

Discuss this. And without being a bitter hater or I’ll ban you.

The JIK Era as a whole enhances the experience of listening to the album, no doubt

"discuss without being a bitter hater" right after saying that anyone who doesn't like the album is a loser who lives in their parents's basement. what kind of civil discussion are you expecting lmao

  • Nov 30, 2019

You say that like it’s so far outside the realm of possibility. Maybe if you said top 3 I’d be inclined to argue.

  • Nov 30, 2019

Biggest gripe on this board is there are so few people willing to open themselves up a bit to new concepts and truly appreciate this man as an artist / creator trying to give you fresh vibes. JIK era may not be the undisputed goat, but It’s been a while since I’ve felt this type of aesthetic consistency and sense of purpose from Kanye. The looks are amazing. The colors and textures are untouchable and perfectly match the new landscape. The visuals have been incredible, from JIK film into the two music videos.

Generally speaking, there’s a wider trend of people around the world (and in the US, more recently) looking to go inward. You’re seeing more interfaith, god-optional groups sprouting up. Zen Buddhist and yogic principles getting applied more broadly. Concepts like “unbecoming” getting more attention. Increasingly, people are anchoring their identity to concepts greater than the ground under their feet and are looking to connect more broadly with humanity. That level of widespread, meaningful connection requires the S+ tier least common denominator - love. Love everyone. Think of the last two years. It’s all been working towards this moment. Love of humanity. Love of family. Love of God, in his case. Kanye’s paying respect and tribute to the tradition he was born into, but bringing those concepts into other forms of creation. Wouldn’t be surprised to see more people going off the grid and disconnecting from the heaviness of modernity, especially with work getting even more decentralized and automation taking hold. People aren’t ready for a wave when we can just create and connect but it’s coming. Kanye, as usual, is just ahead of the game. This is truly a great era.
