u gotta understand there's two perspectives here
one is a holistic perspective of all music from the last half-century, the other is the perspective of someone inside the world of hip-hop.
Consider the example of Carl Perkins. This guy wrote Blue Suede Shoes, he was respected and influential in Rock n Roll. You ask a rock guy if carl perkins is a legend, and he might say yes. If you went up to ur average KTT poster though, there's no chance they'd consider Carl Perkins a legend. S***, they probably wouldn't even recognize the name.
With guys like Doom, Mos Def, Lupe, etc. they're legends to insiders, but to the average radio listener with no special interest in hip-hop, they're definitely not legends.
Who gives a f*** about people who have no idea about the culture. That opinion shouldn’t even matter
No response from push yet the clock is ticking
not really
the round is over
there’s no urgency to respond

u can feel how u feel
im just trynna clear up why there's so much disagreement itt on who is and isn't a legend
Doom is not, no. Mos Def maybe as he’s a respected figure for his social commentary and activism.
It’s easy to pretend that what I implied is that they need to be mainstream sensations but I think you know that’s not true.
Plenty of artists out here who are not mainstream and can still consistently pack much bigger venues showing that they actually have a loyal following.
Pusha T is not on equal footing to Mos Def and that’s obvious.
Someone's on the spectrum
We don’t know Jay’s relationship with those artists so we can’t use them for comparison. We are discussing PUSHA T. Not anybody else.
Push been around for how long?
Lol wtf you talking about man
You be in these peoples phone to know their relationships with eachother? How you know push and jay are closer to eachother than any of the other dudes on that list
Sir, TMZ and twitter do not know everything about celebrity relationships. You're making yourself sound stupid now
People thinking dropping a song at a fashion show is “Goated” is all you need to know about the state/consumers of hip hop
DOOM is absolutely a legend
Y’all are saying some of the dumbest s*** I’ve seen on this site itt
Absolutely not. Some of you just like pretending. Just because someone is good and was under appreciated by hip hop as a whole doesn’t make them legends.

I think the fact that he influenced ALOT of rappers makes him in fact a legend

Who was influenced by him? Not trying to be a d*** but what style did he have that so many rappers are using?
I don’t think there was one. People gave him props because he was good and didn’t get what he deserved but I don’t feel like I hear doom in many other rappers styles.
I’m not trying to disrespect the guy or anything I just think we get reeeeeal lenient with the word legend.

Tyler and Earl heavily inspired by Doom.
But let me get out y’all conversation
Disappointing response
Push barred him up on a clipse reunion track, dropped it in Paris at Pharrell’s first LV show, walked out to it, had Jay and Beyoncé bopping their heads to it, and this is the best he’s got???
I mean..it's Jim Jones, lol.
