In all facets of things I think it’s great to be familiar with all kinds of music though. There’s a reason why we highlight albums like Illmatic, Madvillainy, Reasonable Doubt, Black on Both Side MBDTF, The Infamous, Stankonia, Rodeo, NWTS, etc.

This also goes for the old head mentality of ONLY liking s*** that came out in the 90s. It’s great to expand your taste to fully understand the different kinds of rap and sounds

I agree. I kinda side-eye people who claim to love something while having no desire to at least know about the history of said thing but then again, I don't judge or call them fake for not being interested in stuff they simply aren't interested in.

I love a lot of rap/R&B from the 90s, down to the 2020s but that's mostly because of how I was raised. Not everyone was raised the same way or on the same music so you can't expect them to have the same appreciation for s*** the way you would.

Yeah, I mean different people will have different entry points to liking a genre of music.

This mentality that if you don't have a deep reverence for old school hip-hop, your appreciation for a genre is somehow fake is the exact reason why every white person who is a rap fan has the same top 5 and only claims to like old s***. Because they think liking new s*** means their love isn't genuine.

Just let people like what they wanna like. There's more than enough rap music to go around for everyone is what I'm saying.

There’s white people on both sides of that tho

You got white kids saying Yeat is top 5 oat

I just think to have a discussion about the genre you should be well versed in it and actually know what your talking about

Yeah, but the white kids saying that are actual kids lol. It's a lot of grown white men who think that if they don't have the same 5 dudes in their top 5, they'll be called out as being fake rap fans and so they s*** on anything that isn't "real" hip-hop (whatever the f*** that means).

I agree, though. To have certain in-depth discussions about the artform and the genre, you've gotta know your s***. That's for sure.

This thread is a prime example of why rap fans are the worst

Facts that’s why I kind of pull away from judging but for the folks both young and old that call certain kinds of music (rap specifically) trash, it’s just annoying for me as someone that loves music in general. If they’re the aggressor, then you will be judged straight up lmao

True and that’s probably why mfs still got Eminem on the top 5 list lmfaooo

Every real Drake fan knows he's a student of the game. That doesn't mean his fans have to like that exact brand of hip-hop.

There's enough styles and flavors of rap today to satisfy everybody and enough space to appreciate everyone for what they offer. This idea that anyone who isn't a fan of what many people might categorize as ''real'' hip-hop is somehow a fake fan doesn't help anything. People are free to like what they like.

We just pointing out how funny it is that the music his stans categorize as "not outside music" is the s*** that he loves. Especially when some niggas on here base their entire personality around being a fan of this nigga

Yea it’s kinda funny cuz the music they slander as “scaring the hoes music” is the s*** Drake listen to lol

Mans quoted MF Doom, listens to Mach Hommy, did songs with Malice before the Push beef, listens to Griselda, rapped over Dilla and other niggas in that lane’s production

Drake a rap nerd and I promise you if he didn’t accept his role as the hit maker of his generation we would’ve absolutely have gotten an alchemist album from this nigga lol

there is an extremely low chance that drake is an active griselda listener im sorry

He loves several kinds of music. That's just one of the kinds of music he appreciates and that's because he was a rap nerd even before he became a musician. Doesn't mean his fans have to like it, neither does it make them fake fans if they don't like it as well.

If you can find where I said his fans have to like that type of music or if they’re fake fans cuz they don’t like it I’ll cashapp you 100 bucks.

All I said was that it’s funny that they slander that type of s*** he listens to lol

If Jim Jones is really about that energy the way he was when he called into the Joe Budden Podcast, Push might have his work cut out for him just off the fact that Jim has nothing to lose. He isn't Drake who is some famous celebrity with an image to protect who'll back down so things don't get messier.
