How does this compare to his previous music? I've felt he's quite a bit overrated as there aren't many musicians that make experimental music like him in the UK rap space. However when I compare him to others that make experimental music like that he was just OK in my opinion
Does 3x sample this

or technically

i get the samples/interpolations are on purpose but they didn't do it for me half of jim's verse of "sun" being j hus lines or the whole verse of "dbab" being a kojo funds interpolation, the turnaround on "3x" being a skepta sample is a bit on the nose and doesn't really fit the rest of the song imo

id agree if it weren't album called "black british music"

its obviously intentional and it doesnt make me dislike those songs but it feels a bit lazy when it's such large parts of the song

It’s not that much better than hnpm imo, I might even like that a little more
Folks are starved for something new and exciting in hip-hop so I get the hype but I seen a couple folks calling this nigga the new Kanye/comparing the album experience to what it felt like when he debuted like Ye ain’t burst out the gates with both the magic and the hits
Plenty of innovation going on in other genres but I think most hh listeners tend to almost exclusively stay within that space so whenever someone good like Jim comes along with interesting samples and melodies they jump the gun like a mf
Agree with everything u said

I listen to plenty s*** outside rap and this was an impressive eclectic colourful well produced project that sounded great. Hnpm was not nearly as varied and well made
He’s incredibly creative, he has a great ear for melodies, he fuses things that aren’t often fused in a unique way that stands out, it’s sentimental and feels grand. I don’t see what you’re saying. I think if someone else did dexters phone call, or issues of trust hey would still be great but the fact it’s being done on a British rap jerk afrobeat pop rnb album too is quite impressive

And on dbab he did the informer flow lmaooo
