they genuinely never mattered that much

so many albums have strong fw sales and plummet thereafter, and plenty that started off unimpressively become mega-hits eventually. BITTSM is a great example of the latter

Sales stans on here probably would've shatted on Illmatic and Ready To Die for not having strong fw sales if KTT existed in the 90's lol.

number of people taking an interest to your music as soon as you release an album = doesnt matter anymore ???

just say you cannot compete with drake dawg or make better music.

Who in the world is comparing Joey Badass to Drake on a commercial level?

That's gotta be the most random comparison ever lol.

You’re right that streaming is a better indicator than pure sales but honestly the 1500 paid streams = 1 album sale thing is kinda crazy. You can get 100 million plays and it counts for like 60k

I guess it could be tweaked but the numbers still mean something in the context of what you are doing in relationship to competition. For mainstream acts at least.

Morgan Wallen sold half a milli fw this year. He's the GOAT.

Taylor Swift sold 1.5+ milli fw this year. She's the GOAT.

White America won according to sales stans.

I don't even think Illmatic cracked the top 40 first week lol

Definitely unrelated to his last album going triple plastic

His last album was some good music, that's all you should care about dummy

a lot of you aren't gonna realize how right he is until tha carter VI only does 150k first week. we're in a new era right now, you might as well adjust your standards lol.

Why bring up Lil Wayne as an example? He isn't a huge artist.

    badmon kinda right tho

that mixtape is trash outside the steez songs. those two songs the only good songs he’s ever made. literally just a relic of the blog era just like charles hamilton the cool kids boldy james sir michael rocks etc etc

You called it trash, that just reminded me that music is subjective. It was trash to you, but it was good enough to receive critical acclaim and make him a household name at 16 years old.

The artists we see on billboard are like 1% of artists.

You know how many artists would kill for 33 million plays in a week 10 years in?

You don’t have to cape this hard. We all know 22k is low.

But that aside let’s remind ourselves of the fact that Joey Badass didn’t keep this same energy when his sales were up. Bro was feeling himself and bragging about his sales and even clowned Troy Ave’s sales for seemingly no reason.

And after Troy Ave responded. Joey responded with a freestyle doing the same thing.

“Over 250,000 albums sold worldwide and this ain’t even have the potential I possess”

“Men lie women lie numbers sure don’t”

“The karma gon catch up, the album sales won’t”

“Holla back when you getting $60k for the show”

Seems like when your sales are down that’s when they don’t matter.

  • obviously first week sales don't dictate the quality of music, but when an artist u like is up there on top of the charts, it can be fun to track first week sales.

there is nothing wrong w appreciating ur guy doing numbers, and doing so doesn't make u a robot who can't see value in anything with lower sales.

Do you genuinely feel like first week sales are important to you?

Do you genuinely care about one rich artist being richer than another rich artist?

Any artist consistently selling 22k first week is rich compared to your average person (assuming they aren't in a terrible deal).

I find this whole thing ridiculous. As long as the artist isn't doing so bad that they can't get a record deal/recording time/adequate equipment, I really don't care how much they sell.

Of course it's nice to see an artist you like doing well financially and making an impact, but it's never something to laugh at an artist at - especially when they are getting millions of streams on multiple songs.

I personally never cared about sales. My point was that Joey Badass only changing his tune because his sales are down.

In fact, the only reason we're here making excuses about him selling 22k is because yall like him. If this was 6ix9ine or something nobody would be doing that.

I rarely listen to Joey Badass, I'm not sure why you think people are stand of him that are trying to make excuses. 22k isnt embarrassing, thats my point.

Regardless of the reason Joey Badass said it (you are making big assumptions for why he did, he could have just changed his opinion), what he is saying is true
