Sure but you really can't see the king of comedy influence ? Has nothing to do with it being a rip off or anything just the primary character arc has been done already

Joker as a film delved more into the darker side of the character but still the actions and ideas remained the same

Oh yeah, I can see the influence, I just thought the film ultimately had its own identity

forget about the mcu this has gotta be the least original blockbuster in 20 years, there’s nothing special about this movie , although it did capture the zeitgeist cause there’s a lot of edgy f***ers out there, I do think a sequel has the potential to be way better though

if hypothetically they didn’t clue Scorsese in he could definitely sue & probably win, scenes straight up lifted from king of comedy

Taking a comic book villain, giving him an origin story that plays out as a drama and takes elements from Scorsese movies - actually pretty original.

First, usually comic book villains don’t get their own movies. When they do, they are made “antiheroes” aka basically just heroes that are supposed to be bad guys. Examples, Morbius, Venom, Suicide Squad. In Joker, they kept Joker as the villain. They made him empathetic, but he was in no way a hero.

Second, it plays out unlike practically any other comic book adaptation. There were no big set pieces or even action scenes. The climax of the movie was a tense conversation and a single gun shot.

Lastly, most super hero movies are influenced by just other super hero movies basically. For them to lift from Scorsese films is an original influence in the sphere of superhero movies.

Look I really don’t agree here, there’s a difference between influence which I’m all for & what this movie is, but if they have this joker who’s an idiot in a malaise ,influence another “joker” as has been theorized, I would amend my opinion a bit, cause that’s pretty interesting

Had they done it the clichéd comic book movie way joker woulda been portrayed as a misunderstood anti hero with a heart of gold who ends up saving the world

you know I’m right, at least establish some sort of personality for the character

It's not close to the least original. Plenty of movies from 2019 are direct lifts of 2018 movies which are rips from before that. This obsession with edgy ppl or losers being the only champions of this movie is wrong n statistically impossible considering just how popular the movie became

Joker, while flawed and carried intensely on the shoulders of Joaquin, should honestly be left as a stand alone film

A sequel wouldn't be able to rekindle the same spark the first movie did

What does this have to do with how the masses took to this movie. Similar to like Dave Chapelle specials the media sphere around this movie operates outside of the actual public opinion of the movie. By and large people loved this s***
