His stans are already dismissing points of the story as you've mentioned. allowing the court of public opinion to develop, and then trying to piggy back off of whereever that goes does seem very counterintuitive, but I do think it requires an unorthodox response when you have as many liberal fans as he does, that's going to innately want to overbelieve any long-winded allegation
