I’m not too hung up on the ending but one question I have is why tell the story i get why people feel flaccid by the ending wit gojo and while have quibbles about his story i kinda feel he factored in too much to the story and in reality he is not the most interesting character. His discussion with sukuna on what it means to be the strongest feels like a fine b story but I don’t really know what other coherent theses Gege was serving up near the end. if my reading comprehension is poor and I’m missing what the point of this story I’m open to enlightenment lol.
I think it was leading up to something in the end that gege just kinda dropped or really just didn't develop enough post might be kinda long
The whole love theme at least to me seemed to be building up to Yuji's whole goal of being surrounded by ppl when you die and Also the fact that being loved can stop you from going certain paths. Yuji brings up near the final chapters that since he was so much stronger then regular humans he couldn't understand stuff like certain medical procedures. This Reminded me of Sukuna and early Gojo they were so strong that they couldn't understand why weak ppl do what they do. Gojo doesn't defend the weak with actual purpose until losing to toji and also losing Riko and Geto ppl he loved and cared about. Yuji didn't understand things people less gifted then him goes through until he joins jujutsu high and starts going through terrible things
Sukuna does not go through any of this until the very end of the story where he loses to Yuji and we get the afterlife scene where he explains how his life could've been different if he had chosen a diff path. Gojo Dies thinking he's a monster that everyone just views as a weapon. We know this isn't true tho a lot of characters say they owe them his life. I think that at the end it wanted to show that while Gojo dies thinking he was a monster his students love him for his human aspects and that he died being loved as a human not a jujutsu weapon.
Now if this was the message it kinda fails because up until the last few chapters Yuji never had the "Im strong everyone weak is beneath me" attitude that Gojo, and Sukuna had. he treated everyone very kindly and seemed very sympathetic to everyone throughout the story. There's also the fact that that besides the shocked faces we got when he dies there's like no reactions to gojo death but thats just my two cents

i dont think Gojo vs sukuna is the central point at all. Gojos entire theme of taking outcast, teaching them making them strong is just a „sidetheme“.
I would always be careful to try and narrow down a story onto one particular topic. There is many themes in every story.
But if we focus purely on the most central conflict than that is Yuji and Megumi vs Sukuna and always has been. In fact it even was the original title of the story. The antagonist Sukuna in this story has shown that he is able to live only for himself. That is what made him so strong. He doesnt need to be taught about „love“ that entire concept Yoruzo and Gojo brought up was not referring to him. Megumi meanwhile only lives for singular people. Mainly his sister and Yuji. Because they are pure, willing to save everybody. Sukuna was able to take advantage of that taking the person Megumi lived for and breaking his soul. Freeing him and taking over the body. Yuji lives for everybody. Post his grandpas and nanamis detah he is taking over the burden of the dead. He wants to save everybody person he is phyiscally able to. And that is why in his conflict with Sukuna both while sukuna was in his body and now in the final fight -> Yujis spirit wasnt budging and won. Not because of strength but because he lived with and for others. The characters that helped him were all „saved“. He saved Higurama and his former classmate. Gojo saved Yuta, Maki and co. Their life and the victory over Sukuna was possible because someone decided to live for others and not only egotistical. In the end even when Yuji showed sukuna the meaning of his life sukuna didnt budge. He was too far gone. But as the final chapter reveals when he was alive even he now recognizes that at one singular point he HAD the choice. So he goes north to maybe be reborn and take it to live for somebody else. Mahito the pure curse wouldnt understand but deep down Sukuna was human and now defeated he HAS to recognize that he also had the chance to live FOR somebody else
The hype moments only work and exist because they are written well. This manga is called „sorcery fighting“. If you dont want something different what are you here for

I've seen tik tok clips about him being inspired by BL.
He should just go all in on that aspect in his new series.

Tbh tho if they dont wanna write romance and instead just queer coded characters thats fine by me.
Im actually rather happy ONE and gege are one of the few mangaka that do not put anything really sexual in their manga
I think it was leading up to something in the end that gege just kinda dropped or really just didn't develop enough post might be kinda long

I mean there’s themes, plot, and story. I certainly track the themes and plot of jjk but the story (raison d’être) of it has been a bit elusive for me thanks for your spin on it. The story still doesn’t come off as incredibly confident to me and parts that feel facile but I do think this is a p culturally specific work and some aspects just don’t appeal or translate well to me. But all in all Gege did good work, the shonen grind is one of the least conducive to making a good complete work and the hiccups near the end nowhere near the s***show/milquetoast ive read.
I think it was leading up to something in the end that gege just kinda dropped or really just didn't develop enough post might be kinda long

I hope I dont annoy you because I appreciate your input to the thread even tho we disagree.
But I think you cant really make an a***ysis without mentioning Megumi once. Like I know he a meme and all but he is such a central figure. And I think its rather strange how people clown him when his story is about such serious topics like the loss of someone you love to illness, a lack of selfworth and depression. Also another character that has a great ending imo not getting totally getting over his loss (hence the funeral scene) and still probably being depressed but recognizing how he might be the Tsumiki to Yuji and others. And taking the „difficult“ path of moving forward and why I love Yujis „itll be lonely without“ you so much
