the time and effort it requires to make a commercial major label album compared to writing a youTube review is so vast, that it would genuinely hurt most people to have a bad thumbnail and 15 second clip bash what you just did
like it's one thing if its an anonymous internet troll, but fantano has real weight. if a new artist gets a yellow flannel or 8+ review, their lives change.
if you are in a rocky period with your label and you get a red flannel or NOT GOOD review, their business is at risk (if there's overlap between fantano's audience and their own)
sometimes there's not a lot of overlap, but when there is, I 100% get why an artist would be reactive. some albums take years to finalize, demo's get worked on for years, production can be a grueling task with 10/15+ people working late nights almost daily for months on end. then you have to go on a marketing campaign before a 6-8 month tour that you hope doesn't just sell tickets, but t shirts, merch, vinyls, cds... all or an album of songs you spent a decent part of your life writing and polishing. even if you're on a big stage and done all that, I think if you're a trust artist, those emotions don't just go away.
im not even a huge strokes or Casablancas fan, but I 100% understand the sentiment behind being frustrated at fantano. you can s*** on a project I poured months into, and one wrong thumbnail can make hundreds of thousands deem it not even worthy listening, in an era where music has never been more accessible.

yea the part that people don't wanna admit is that he's a good writer. him and his (I think small) team knows how to write a music review that's relevant to the music. so much of music reviews the past 15/20 years have been about the oped's about the artist brand.

how does fantano change this? he's done the same thing he's always done, he's not gunning for a monopoly
guys, he will become less relevant when people stop caring about his opinions and that's def not happening when artists can't stop name dropping him on social media or in their albums lol

Critics aren't for the artists, they are for the consumer - always has and will and it has a purpose

Also, just like awards, I don't take any artist serious when they hate on critics
Because they're the same ones that will celebrate when a critic (or award) is in their favor
Everyone in music wants a Grammy, and everyone in music would love a good review, regardless what pretentious internet fans think or try to act like we're beyond it
Awards are for the artists, critics are for consumer
It's that simple
