So around this time last week I made a major f*** up and ran my car into a telephone pole. I was insured but I didn't have collision insurance and since it was my fault it's on me to cover the damages. which is crazy cause my premium is over 300 a month and that's without collision
so I got my car over to the shop for an estimate and they finally got back to me today. they said the damages would cost like 7500 to repair at least. and that was only visual damage, not even considering what they'd find when they start to tear my car down
the front right section of my car got hit pretty hard, I def need a new light, new fender, new wheel and a new right side door. but I got quoted to replace my back right door which looked totally fine to me afterwards. they also told me they would "repair" my back quarter but it was only scratched. the door def had some dents in it but I really don't care about cosmetics.
not to mention the PAINT which costs like 1600 dollars ! I emailed guy and told him that idc if he paints it or not as long as it moves. I told him to just do the bare minimum I don't care about the back half of the car. he said call me monday morning and we can go over options. he could just mean do you wanna fork over the money or sell it to a junkyard lmao I have no clue
at this point I don't know what I'm gonna do. I have enough in savings to cover 7500 but I don't want to if I don't have to. 6k or less is much more comfortable for me.
I could also go shopping for a new cars but it sucks and I'd probably end up paying as much as 7500 for a decent ride with registration fees and taxes and all that anyways so I may as well dump all that into my car now right
car is a 2012 corolla with 90 k miles on it
car guys help me out
2012
take the L b
it was a nice car though lmao and toyotas are made to last
if I end up having to get a new car I'm gonna need to get one around that year model anyways
Bro…..you can’t be serious. Get a new car wtf
you think? what's your reasoning for it? if it costs the same I don't see the point
if you plan on driving it for a while fix it, how many miles on it? also get another quote on repairs.
How the f*** do you pay $300 a month just liability? Check out some more insurance options too that's insane lol

Putting a heavy investment into repairs for what quite literally is the most common car on earth seems like wasted value. You’re more than likely to find a newer model and/or less miles with that amount of money

I just got my license like 6 months ago and I'm 24. being a single male with no driving experience at that age absolutely f***ed me
I looked at like 4 different insurances places and they were all the same

the used car market is f***ing awful right now. so much price gouging. I got this one for a decent price but that's only because I bought it from an independent seller who really wanted to get rid of it fast

I agree but I also feel like if you look at it as an expense instead of an investment your perspective shifts a little bit. I get what you’re saying but to me it’s a no brainer I could never justify paying more money in repairs than what the vehicles value is

Yeah you getting your license recently must've been it
I mean at 90k with that model corolla... Might be worth getting a 2021 truthfully or something else just used for that repair money if the quote is legitimate
I would get a beater off craigslist for a couple months and think about what car you'd really like long term, then you can just turn and sell that

I used to sell cars.
Junk the car bro. Don't spend THAT much on repairing a corolla or at least GO TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC.
You're getting ripped offf

in your experience do body shops do partial work or is it an all or nothing sort of thing?
if I was gonna scrap the car what do you think is the max amount of money I could get for it? not expecting much, maybe just enough to soften the blow a bit ?
Maybe take the L and lease a car for under 200/month since used car prices are crazy rn
