I would've rather them not have to deal with any real life black issues if they were going to portray the one Black American dropping truth bombs in the movies as a psycho.

and T'Challa supposedly learns from Killmonger but only comes back to the Bay to open up some lame YMCA era lol Black Panther was embarrassing instead of maybe actually helping the Black community in a substantial way.

its a flaw with who is making the story. Simply getting a black cast doesn't change the fact that at the end of the day, its white people financing and controlling what is told.

I can only speak on the movie, but is that not the final message of the ending? That Killmongers "fuck white people and what they've done" message is a radical and psychopathic stance and that the "real solution" is for Wakanda to work with the rest of the world and somehow by teaming up with the CIA provide for the black neighborhoods because the US government that oppressed them for decades is to be trusted?

Oh btw, the most genuinely f***ed up moment of that film is when that CIA agent is shooting down Wakandans through a remote control ship, which is basically just a drone at that point.

Killmonger was a radical and perfectly in the right til Coogler said "Oh he's making too much sense here" let's have him choke out an old lady so the audience hates him. It was a lame move that made little sense and disrespectful to Black Americans who related to his character.

T'Challa doesn't actually do much when to honor his legacy by the end of the film either so it's just another slap to the face. He could've been redeemed and become T'Challa's ally but nope choke out old lady, burn everything.

Just because someone is a political extremist/radical in terms of how they view history doesn’t mean they’d do some foul s*** like randomly kill their girlfriend

They knew that if they didn’t include Killmonger doing all the extra foul s*** like killing his girl or choking the Wakandan old lady, the crowd would be conflicted on who was actually the villain...and even with those things included the large sentiment was that Killmonger still wasn’t wrong

extremism in villains is fine, but given that the first issue of Black Panther was a year after Malcolm's assassination, there is something disingenuous about Killmongers whole stance being that black people need to separate from the racist white government that has oppressed them, which is a very Malcolm X take.

And using that stance, they end up turning him into an absolute psychopath with the dumbest f***ing idea ever to have Wakanda conquer the entire world like he's Hitler or something except even Hitler wasn't as stupid as to take on the entire world at once with a small ass army.

Its literally taking the piss on those ideas of black people rejecting all white influence in their lives.

they could've either made them allies who learned from each other or if they were going to keep him as a villian maybe don't make so cartoonishly him evil to the point where the audience has no choice but to hate him. I'm not familiar with the comics but there must've been another way to portray Killmonger - his arc is a big reason why black people loved the movie.

Killmonger is enraged with Wakanda’s apathetic approach at handling these issues, him choking out the lady made sense to me.

and i don’t know if there was a way to narratively redeem the character where it would have felt natural in the film. 🤔 maybe if he had survived in a sequel or something.

I think the issue was moreso Killmonger than T'Challa. There are heroic aspects to T'Challa in terms of him being a true warrior and wanting to change the flaws inherent with Wakanda's resistance to work with the world and help oppressed people all over. But using Killmonger to be the villain in this story comes off as a way of saying "you black people should identify more with african black people who want to work with the good CIA instead of the black people that always complain!"

I feel like BP is only going to age worse and worse as time goes on. Its such a neoliberal movie. Like it full out downplays the s*** out of black oppression from the US government and feels more and more like some weird ass FBI recruitment video aimed at black Americans.

also sidenote, why is almost every villain from the MCU broke, unemployed, or oppressed from a government or corporation?

Iron Man 1 is literally about a billionaire capitalist playboy a****** and it's more thematically powerful than most of the MCU

honestly I pretty much found him to be a genuine and compelling character who made sense in his frustrations (Besides him killing his gf, that was just edgy af) and how he acted out all up to when he drinks that liquid or whatever and becomes the king.

and then he starts going on about world domination and s*** and I'm just facepalming at that point.

Facts

BP made me really not like anyone in Wakanda overall.

like just ignoring everyone else’s struggle and hoarding the advancements in tech.

Made me root for Killmonger most of the movie.

But yeah they really forced the audience to see him as a Villian with a bit of overbearing moments
