What is Zack Snyder’s Justice League?
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the 4 hour directors cut of Justice League (2017) and the third film in Zack Snyder’s DC Saga beginning with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition).
Why is it happening?
Zack Snyder had to leave Justice League during post-production in 2017 after his daughter, Autumn, took her own life. Warner Bros. brought in Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron) to finish the movie for Zack. 70% of Justice League ended up being reshot in the summer of 2017. With reshoots finishing in the summer of 2017, Warner Bros. executives pushed to release the film in November so they could get their bonus for that fiscal year. The release was a disaster for the studio with mixed critical reception and disappointing box office numbers. The released film was noticeably different just from footage left out that was in some of the early trailers.
After the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement took the world by storm, and with the support of Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher (plus crew members), Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder announced that the original version of Justice League will be released in 2021 on HBO Max. Warner Media gave the production $70,000,000 to finish the film.
What's the difference with the 2017 version?
This version of Justice League will be 4 hours long, with at least 2 hours of never before seen footage. There will also be a new score, a new design for the main villain, new visual effects, and a few additional brand new scenes shot for this release.
This version of Justice League is Zack Snyder’s original vision for the film. Zack is not taking money for this version but instead is having complete creative control. As of now DC Films does not intend to make a sequel to this film but if it does well enough, there is a chance.
Do I need to watch anything before this?
Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition) should be seen before Zack Snyder’s Justice League. 2017’s Wonder Woman is optional, as it provides the origin for Diana Prince, but it ultimately has no impact on the story of Justice League.
