Why is it happening?
Zack Snyder left “Justice League'' during post production to grieve with his family, after his 20 year old daughter Autumm took her own life. Warner Brothers, worried after the critical reception of “Batman v Superman”, brought in Joss Whedon (“The Avengers”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”) not to finish Snyder’s vision (who grabbed a laptop with his unfinished work to see at home) but to do extensive rewrites and hurried reshoots that ended in the summer of 2017. Paramount allowed Henry Cavill to film his new scenes but without shaving his mustache since he was working on “Mission Impossible Fallout”, making the VFX team work extra hard to remove it for the final product. Instead of pushing the release date to the next year, WB’s executives decided to keep the November release so they wouldn’t miss on their bonus for the fiscal year and WB’s CEO Kevin Tsujihara mandated a 120 minutes runtime. The movie’s release got a mixed critical reception and a lukewarm acceptance from the fans, making $657,926,987 around the world.
Soon after the release some fans started to use #ReleaseTheSnyderCut after more info about the behind the scenes started to leak. With the time passing, Snyder would share some of his storyboards and answer questions from the fans about his cut on the social media “Vero”, adding more followers to the movement. The actor for Steppenwolf, Ciarán Hinds, said the released version “wasn’t the movie I worked so hard on”. Hollywood trades would publish articles claiming the “Snyder Cut” didn’t exist and that it was nothing more than a pipedream, but the hashtag kept gaining momentum. Fans bought a Times Square billboard and even paid to have single-engine airplanes fly a “Release the Snyder Cut” banner around both the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank . On November 17 of 2019, the 2nd anniversary of the movie, #ReleaseTheSnyderCut took the world by storm: it trended worldwide on Twitter all day with the support of Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher and crew members.
On May 20 of 2020 it was announced that the Snyder Cut, later renamed “Zack Snyder’s Justice League’’, would be released on the streaming service HBO Max in 2021. Deborah Snyder, producer of the movie, said "With the new platform and streaming services, you can have something like this. You can’t release something like this theatrically, but you could with a streaming service. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there two years ago, to be honest.".
What's the difference with the 2017 version?
This version has a 4:3 format rather than wide-screen so that one day it can be watched on IMAX screens. It will be 4 hours long, it has a full new edited cut, new score by Junkie XL (“Batman v Superman”,“Mad Max”), new visual effects, new color grading, black suit Superman, Darkseid, a new design for Steppenwolf (what Snyder had in mind) and more surprises. Also Snyder shot some new minutes last year to add some material he didn't get to film back in 2016.
Joss Whedon rewrote and reshot about three quarters of Justice League, from what Snyder can gather. Executive producer Cristopher Nolan and producer Deborah Snyder advised him to not watch the 2017 version. Snyder estimates that it cost around $70 million to undo Whedon’s redo. For that, HBO Max gets a four hours movie divided into six chapters (think “Kill Bill” or “Inglorious B******s”).
This version of Justice League is Zack Snyder’s original vision for the film. Zack Snyder is not getting paid for this version and with that he is having complete creative control. As of now DC Films does not intend to make a sequel to this film but if it does well enough, there is a chance.

Money talks in Hollywood
So I never even watched the OG justice league, should I even bother with it before this?
Was only worth seeing when it came out to laugh at it
So does this JL still follow the plot of Whedons film or is there a completely new ending / conflict?

Steppan Wolf is the bad guy and that's about it, everything else is going to be VERY different

Darkseid is new. They still want to conquer Earth

don't count on this bro, the logistics of getting Henry Cavil and Batfleck back are near impossible

Really just comes down to Affleck. Cavill would want to be back its just WB who hates him. And even Affleck is signed on to appear at least one more time as Batman.
Harder to justify cus of costs but HBO Max keeping him around wouldn't be a bad idea. WB has far moved on tho but alternate timeline Snyderverse in any format/story would be a plus even if its a short one character miniseries or something.
the good thing about this all is HBO Max is separate from WB's DC Films. Also heads at AT&T seem to like Snyder as well they're a big reason this is even happening. Wishful thinking but you never know

i would cry if we got the return of Affleck. I was gutted when he stepped down from his solo film. Prob the best looking batman suit and most comic accurate aesthetic we have ever got. I hope you're right
where at?

They talked about it here but I don't know where it is

I heard apparently there's surprises in there that weren't expected

HBO Maxverse soon come
Nahh they just talkin. If they actually avoided a rip they're free to move on as planned. You really had to go searching for pics and vids in order to really have s*** spoiled and WB locked down on links pretty quick.
throw in a new character trailer, articles and interviews over the next couple days and we'll be right back to waiting only a week. I think the original twitter user was right when he was saying it cut off after an hour. There were people who skipped around to take pictures and s***ty camera vids but no one saw it in full and no one ripped the whole thing in time unless they just haven't revealed themselves
