First Avenger was so earnest and had Joe Johnston’s style all over it. Even the first Thor as mediocre as it ended being was bleeding with Kenneth Branaugh’s style. f*** happened to Marvel?

Because they are lost causes and I know you like some mcu so I'm confused why you always gotta bring them up in a negative way. Not that serious obv but so much relentless mcu shade got me feeling like the devil's advocate. It's like your one iconic letterboxd review about how something is considered so overrated that it might as well be underrated.

Not defending the mega monopolies, already said I don't support Disney crushing small cinemas and s*** but I've been reading marvel (and a little DC) my whole life so

They got rid of Branaghs wannabe Olivier ass thankfully and let Taika imprint his mythological frescos and kiwi charm on the franchise

Well I’ll watch Wandavision with an open mind just for you man. Marvel can make some fun stuff. Just felt really burnt out after Endgame and felt that a lot of the criticism directed at Snyder and even guys like Verbinski is that their blockbusters don’t follow that format and indulge in weird styles and tones so of course I’m gonna compare them to what they’re criticized for not doing. It’s hard not to bring up Marvel when talking about the Snyder Cut. There was an article written called why Marvel killed auteur theory and why that’s a good thing, it’s relevant to this because this is a blockbuster directly being marketed by it being a directors visions whether that vision works for you or not.

I liked the scenes in Asgard lol movies falls off the deep end once it stops being a Shakespearian sci-fi fantasy and just becomes a generic blockbuster that’s ashamed of being a comic book movie.

Some of Thor’s earth interactions are funny tho.

Endgame was almost 2 years ago zero content from marvel between that and WV and people still burned out? Felt like a drought.

I dunno fam I heard way more complaints about other blockbusters (including DC) trying to copy the MCU formula, not sure how you heard the opposite. And Chloe Zhao about to kill off the theory that marvel killed off the auteur theory.

Zero content between Endgame and Wandavision? Lol the Spiderman sequel came out in between and they announced mad stuff in between.

Also what movie is Chloe doing. Eternals? Cuz I'm actually interested in that

to be fair, while a bulk of their s*** is soulless, I can atleast see the styles of Shane Black, James Gunn and Taiki Waititi in their respective movies

But the thing is even with First Avenger or those earlier marvel movies, it was pretty clear they were being restricted in terms of what they were establishing.

You look at a film like Snyder's Justice League and you literally see Snyder making the kind of huge risks not just with his style and with specific scenes, but with the literal world being established, and no director in the MCU would ever have this level of freedom with Feige running s***

Still think Edgar Wright’s Ant Man could’ve perfectly fit into the MCU without the forced cinematic universe building. Feige could’ve easily slapped on a lazy post credit scene tying it to the rest of the MCU like he did with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.
