    SIMILARITIES TO BVS
Batman V Superman was shot a full year before Civil War, and it was definitely written first. BvS was originally supposed to be released theatrically in 2015, but was strangely delayed a year and was released in 2016. It was heavily rumored the Geoff Johns, the Chief Creative Officer at DC at the time, leaked the BvS script to Marvel. Of course I can’t confirm that, but Johns had numerous other instances of undermining the company that he had worked for for years. In any case, the two films have a ton of similarities.
Even the general premise: Iron Man (the billionaire with the gadgets) verses Captain America (the superhuman American hero). But here are a bunch more similarities:

  • Jun 15, 2022

    1. BvS begins with the death of Bruce’s parents and he reminisces about losing them.
Civil War starts with an establishing scene of the death of Tony’s parents (not addressed before in the MCU or the comics) which leads to Tony reminiscing about losing them.

    2. In BvS, there is a CIA operation against a terrorist, in Africa, in which innocent lives are lost and Superman is blamed and scrutinized for operating in a foreign land and the government seeks to hold him accountable.
In Civil War, an Africa operation targeting terrorists and involving soldiers linked to the behind-the-scenes threat in which innocents die and the Avengers’ intervention is blamed and scrutinized for operating in a foreign land resulting in demand for accountability by the government.

    3. A woman whose husband was killed in prison blames Bruce and a woman whose son was killed blames Tony.

    4. A name triggers a hero and causes them to hesitate: Martha/Bucky.

    5. In both films, there is discussion in an apartment about the events in Africa and the world’s reaction to it.

  • Jun 15, 2022

    6. Superman and Captain America question their ability to save people after people died under their watch.

    7. Gratitude for the good that Superman, Batman and the Avengers have done is followed by lectures on unchecked powers, vigilantism and imposing their will on others.

    8. Both films show the destruction in a city after Superman or the Avengers fought there, from a man on a street perspective (ironically audiences only criticized the fight in Man of Steel, not Avengers 2012).

9. In both films, a third party, Lex and Zemo, aim to take down the hero(es). They research weaknesses, manipulate politics and kill to close loose ends.

    10. Bruce and Tony are haunted by deaths caused by destruction.

    11. The question that Captain America poses about government preventing them to act is the same question posed about Superman to Senator Finch.

    12. African victim(s) testify about those who were killed in the African incident

  • Jun 15, 2022

    13. The third party, Lex and Zemo, arranges for an explosion at the diplomatic proceedings surrounding Superman or The Avengers to frame someone in order fuel conflict between the two lead characters.

    14. Authorities turn on Superman and Captain America.

    15. In a big chase scene, Batman chases kryptonite, which Lex intends to use to exploit as a weakness.
In a big chase scene, Steve chases Bucky, which Zemo intends to use as a weakness to exploit.

    16. Wallace and Bucky are used as a Manchurian Candidate to distract authorities and misdirect Bruce or Tony against Clark or Steve.

    17. Bruce or Tony meets Diana or Peter, who has a new film releasing after this one, and Bruce or Tony identifies this new person through video footage. Diana or Peter then joins Bruce or Tony in the big battle.

Its crazy how Civil War was made specifically to fight BvS.

For a split second there marvel saw DC as competition. Then BVS backlash put an end to that real quick as DC basically tapped themselves out

    SUPERMAN

Its crazy how Civil War was made specifically to fight BvS.

all we needed was a couple more solos and everything woulda been fine regardless of any BvS backlash
