By the sound of Britney and Janet stans, they make this nigga sound like he's Chris and R. Kelly.

I even sideeye certain BW who defend both of those bozos

the backlash against JT is very overblown no doubt. but it isn’t as overblown as the backlash against Janet back then. the way i see it, he’s getting the public whipping he managed to evade during his commercial peak

it is what it is. i agree that it won’t really affect his career though. the talent is there and his catalog is too strong

crazy thing too is that MOTW is still better than the dogshit album Usher just put out which somehow got an 8 on Pitchfork

It has nothing to do with quality. Media has just gotten way too social justice obsessed and sees a straight white man who has been heavily influenced by black culture to make r&b/hip hop infused pop and wants to tear him down. (Same reason why they destroyed Arcade Fire after Reflektor, an album they praised heavily but contained a ton of influence from black genres).

JT did it to himself by doing the exact roll out to expose himself to this s***

Imagine coming out in 2016 like “hi guys im actually white” lol it was a bad move. Straight up miscalculation at its finest.

Honestly this s*** got nothing to do with Janet and Britney that was just the worst PR move in history

  • Everything

What are you talking about lol? He's still regarded as a legend

    He’s not Kobe to us

I don't think there's anything he could've done to escape it honestly. Also, I don't even really think that was his message lol. Country gets associated all the time with being for white people but like it was clear from Filthy and Supplies that he was still very much using black sounds and black producers.

Like I said, he could've done anything and people would've found a way to rip him for being a white guy using black producers.

He will never recover from MOTW

Man what? Usher did a Tiny Desk and then did the Super Bowl lmao

He wouldn’t have been anywhere near as vulnerable to that if he didn’t do that rollout. Was just really horrendous timing you almost have to laugh that he got back in touch with his whiteness and presented this “rugged woodsman” image at the exact moment the culture had turned against that. I saw it in real time. He pissed away all his good will and cultural credibility with that one move. And he’ll never be held as high as he once was. Strictly because of that one album announcement trailer and nothing else

    again, it wouldnt have mattered

Let's say he decides to play it safe in 2018 and try to do a FSLS2, you don't think media and twitter is coming at his head and saying "oh look Justin once again appropriating black culture"?

It was over for him no matter what

this is true, but it's like with stans, they make it seem like he's a War Criminal, but yet again, they're "stans".

    So what can you expect?

    taylor swift did Tiny Desk

JT definitely bigger than Taylor. Maybe if not JUST above her. But she definitely pales in comparison to him.

Justin's new album has 5m streams first day. Taylor's 11th album will break records

It’s not that, it’s the specific roll out at the worst possible timing which got him “uninvited from the cook out” and he never really gained that mystique back. I still like JT but you can’t tell me he’s loved like he was in the early 10s. Y’all saying the hate gonna fade but really it’s just the love already faded

I really don't care what people think about JT tbh haha. He's already established his legacy. Hard for artist to put out A tier material their whole careers

Ye been in the game as long as Justin and he still got hits. No excuse for Justin other than just losing his touch

You are seeing this from a stan perspective, but for most people Kanye's last good album was from 2013.

Same can be said about what you said about Justin, most artists have mid albums at some point.
