The coolest s*** he did was the backpack imo. It actually ties his world to this new endeavour and it is actually a cool little niche fly thing to have if you are in that business. Like camera man and tech people in general have their own ''style'' when it comes to assembling their perfect setup. This is a perfect way to add to that and can be build upon in the future. A Vivet laptop sleeve, mouse pad, camera/lens bag in those same aesthetics would do extremely well I believe.

The hoodies and tracksuits are absolutely trash in my opinion and seem like they could be from any other ''instagram'' upcoming fashion brand

All in all this is a decent debut for a brand from a streamer who only got into fashion in the past two or three years. You can clearly see his influences and you can clearly see he teamed up with some legit designers and manufacturers, good materials were sourced and there is a cohesive identity to the first showing.

He also wanted to cater to his fanbase and that is where the tracksuits and bulshit hoodies come in I guess.

it worked because he took a lot from the “high” fashion world but married it with black american styling sensibilities. even beyond black american, he really was trying to make an american style of dressing, like a modern ralph. rejection of outdated formal tailoring and more in line with LA climate controlled present, car to the event, event to home kinda lifestyle

kai isn’t making a world as much as he’s trying to make a product that he’s proud of. those are two completely different goals, not tryna d***ride ye but there’s levels to this s***. ye, as flawed as he was and couldn’t hold a candle to the greats, the antwerp crew, european sartorial greats, the japanese avant garde, american craftsman’s, he understood exactly what these groups were trying to do, it was much more about creating worlds in which people could buy into living.

i think kai and his team have a basic understanding of that, but they don’t really show a comprehensive vision that’s his own. it just seems like moodboard slop, there’s nothing in the silhouettes that look intentional. it looks like each piece exists as its own product. it’s less a failure of the styling and more so just how the pieces are made.

he should have, like u said, focused on one element he was tryna extract for the season, but instead wanted to make logo mania loafers in the same season as combat boots in the same season as sweatsuits in the same season as degraded grungy leather moto jackets

i respect the guy for trying but when these’s this much money involved, hired help isn’t going to be vocal about the core issue, this s*** just doesn’t work. they’re goin to try their best to make a moodboard come to life and that’s the real problem here. there’s no concept that’s “real” here. it’s just here’s what i think is cool on my friends. if he chooses to fail forv5/6 more years he could be a decent designer.
