That’s what i’m saying though. Prior to 2014, people were making experimental/deep music and rejection what was popular. From 2010 - 2013 everyone was trying to standout and out-do each other artistically and then ATL tookover after some of those names took the year off

This version is pretty interesting, definitely feels like it was between iterations. the piano loop is pretty silly and a lot of the droning stuff over the main chop feels pretty extraneous. Still super cool to get another peek into such a grail, and the idea that Frank was involved at some point is delicious

Kanye has always put on near-nobodies (Travis, Cudi, Kaycyy, ant clemons, 070, etc) and Metro/Southside are two of the most talented trap producers ever, and are among the most talented rap producers of all time

Sure Kanye heard of them because they were popular, but there’s more to why he respected and adopted their criticisms in earnest

Who said that he only listens to popular artists? Nobody even discredited their talents. All i’m saying is that he linked them in 2015 after Future’s Run and Young Thug’s rise cause he saw how much they changed the game.

Obviously the skill was there but Ye was even late in reaching out to them cause they already were popular so it’s not the same as him linking with Kaycyy and s***.

Ye wanted to be on the radio again and an album like Yeezus or even something like he was doing with SHMG wasn’t going to be that at the time due to the shift in sound. Thats all i’m saying. 2014 is when all of that was buzzing in the underground and then it took over

Ehh not really, he was definitely chasing popularity and relevance that era after seeing Drake's success and how yeezus was being recieved commercially.

That would make him more receptive to letting newer guys like metro's feedback to the point of him making the chances he did
