For some artist it is protection and they use earnings to help community. Yes some use it poorly and greedy . At Least have a deeper call to action than “ this shouldn’t exist at all “ because there is a reason some well intentioned people use it

I mean a lot of that depends on the platform but NFTs allow artists to get paid off second-hand market too which is a big benefit, especially as things increase in value

Most of it is not used by artists but by greedy tech nerds.
The technology as is right now has fatal flaws and it's in the hands of the wrong people.
It could be improved to actually genuinely help artists but it would need to be radically different than it is now.
