Kanye actually explained it amazingly during the 2019 Zane Lowe interview. He said that anytime there is a rap crown transition there’s tension. He said it happened when he took it from Jay and it happened again when Drake took it from him.

Ye taking it from Jay? Like Wayne never existed lol, it went from Jay to Wayne, Kanye kind of co-held the crown with Wayne for 07-08 but never fully took it until MAYBE MBDTF which wasn’t that big commercially compared to Wayne or Grad so it’s debatable. Then Wayne passed it down to drake

I get what you mean, there’s a lot of grey area especially when you could argue that multiple people had the crown at the same time (there’s a ton of crossover between Ye 50 and Wayne), when you get into that it gets a little messy tho tbh and the crown convo is tryna be somewhat simple
